footnoteblog Posted May 28, 2009 Author Share #21 Posted May 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, so it's futile; the only portable universal power that can supply DC power to this charger is the Kensington (other than the included power adapter). Advertisement Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Hi footnoteblog, Take a look here New M8 charger question; power, etc. . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jimleicam3 Posted May 28, 2009 Share #22 Posted May 28, 2009 I like my new charger, however why do the cords have to be so long? Has anyone tried to shorten the cords and reattaching the plugs? Thanks
Bo_Lorentzen Posted May 28, 2009 Share #23 Posted May 28, 2009 Hello Jim, YES, the cord is a standard "charger" cord, I cut 3 of them up to 6 inches for travle and attached them all to one plug, so now I have a pig-tail hanging from the plug when traveling, works great. I'm pretty sure you can also purchase a short version off the web. .
Bo_Lorentzen Posted May 28, 2009 Share #24 Posted May 28, 2009 footnoteblog, I tried with the Solio but it does not have enough "omph" to pull it off. You have to move into the realm of laptop and netbook charger solutions. (it is technically speaking possible to "step up" the voltage from a solio, however it can not sustain the current draw, after all, it was only designed for charging cellphones. also the step-up process is somewhat wasteful of the power, this is why I put together the bigger package which can actually charge both my shift and a leica battery just fine.) . footnoteblog Posted May 28, 2009 Author Share #25 Posted May 28, 2009 Jim, you can use Apple's plugs, including their international travel kit for non-US countries, if you want really short! Bo, thanks for the answer; that's exactly what I wanted to know! (I'm more a light person than an electrical person. )
