Advertisement Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Hi Paul Edwards, Take a look here Digilux 3 kit lens sticking. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jdlaing Posted January 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted January 7, 2009 If you bought the camera kit new it should still be covered under warranty. I have heard of other Leica 14-50 and 14-150 sticking due to an internal screw backing out. I would suggest sending an email to Leica.....
joppepop Posted January 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 8, 2009 Oh, yes, if you search on this lens you will find quite a few having the same problem, yet the next phase of it... The zoom will eventually get stuck and operate only in the range 14 to about 25. The reason seems to be what jdlaing mentions. I sent my lens to Solms and the fixed it immediately on the guarantee, no questions asked. The lens was after this work has been made soooo much more precise in its mechanical operation, if you know what I mean. No feeling of loose parts or such. <3 Next problem for me was however that they must have tightened a few nuts and bolts to hard because the aperture got stuck when I had used the lens one day... So typical. Now I'm waiting for it to return from Germany.
William Noel Posted January 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 8, 2009 Oh no, I have mine with its rubber grip starting to loose due to expansion. I'm starting to worry of bringing this camera on harsh conditions especially that I'm living in a tropical country. I have held an R lens made in Japan (28-70 zoom) that has a very good quality of materials. Its grip is still intact after use for several years already. One of the reason I bought this product is because of my trust to the brand. Just my disappointment...
joppepop Posted January 8, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 8, 2009 I have used the 14-50 lens for some eight months now and when it comes to other aspects than this mechanical failure, I have had no problems at all with it. In fact, I really enjoy this lens and the images I make with it. It was about -10C outdoor when I was out shooting with it just before the aperture blades got stuck. That should not be an unusual temperature. Its not in my part of the world anyway, which isn't that far away from Germany (but quite a bit from Japan, where the lens is made). ASpes Posted July 13, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 13, 2009 HI I have been out with my Digilux 3 today and have experienced the zoom actuation on the kit lens sticking and it only un sticks with a little push. I was just wondering if any body else has suffered this problem? and if it continues is it covered by the guarantee ? Maybe some of you missed this post of mine of a few days ago which points to a DPR thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/47609-my-l1-leica-14-50-lens-4.html Lens fix is described as a doddle, and a LUF user already reported success. It's of course for the daring DIY ones, not sure I'm one myself when it comes to my photo equipment, but anyway worth considering ... Looking forward feedback on this. Best of luck.
