Guest stnami Posted January 6, 2009 Share #2 Posted January 6, 2009 How about one of these smacked on a new oly later this year. 40mmm walk around keep the m8 at home and talk about leica lenses with the punters:D
norm_snyder Posted January 6, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 6, 2009 This reminds me of why I started using Leicas in the first place! It was a IIIc w/ 50mm f1.8 crhome screw mount Canon. I think I paid $45 for the body, and the lens was another 25. I used it for a long time, and it went everywhere with me. Something this size with, say, a 15mm C-V lens, could be just the thing. peterv Posted January 6, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 6, 2009 This thread is likely to be moved to the customer forum... Anyway, I certainly hope Panasonic will release this new 20/1.7 ASAP. I wonder if Leica had anything to do with the design of this lens. Right now I have a terrible GAS-Attack for the LEICA D SUMMILUX 25mm/F1.4 ASPH. But with the adapter 4/3-m4/3 it's going to be quite a large and relatively heavy combo on the G1 camera... I certainly hope that Leica will surprise us all at PMA with some outstanding new glas for the MFT system, but maybe they're just too busy with the S2 and the R10... You're right Imants, a small combination like you mentioned above would be ideal, and kind of reminiscent of the groundbreaking M's in the fifties... (I wasn't even born than..) waterlenz Posted January 7, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 7, 2009 I certainly hope that Leica will surprise us all at PMA with some outstanding new glas for the MFT system, All they have to do is glue adapters to the existing M lenses! Seriously, like many others I am thinking of a G1 to be a sister to my M8 -- no IR issues, probably faster to shoot (FPS) as well. A good hint on what a next M will be -- something like the G1 but with a less than 2x crop factor). If not Leica, then maybe.... Tom
trs Posted January 7, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 7, 2009 I like the OLY even though it is just a mockup. But, they kind of vanished. I don't find any info except the teaser they gave us last year. G1 is still has look of the typical SLR even though it is small. OLY on the other hand, looks very attractive. Afterall, they use same lens and same sensor size as G1, right? -t
Guest stnami Posted January 7, 2009 Share #7 Posted January 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oly said that nothing would happen until 2009 ............... ..................... most of our images will or do live on a monitor. The monitor is great image equaliser ........... Started chasing a new laptop..........almost everything is in gloss now. Something to consider is how is the audience going to view your images and how do you match a camera/sensor and lenses to those needs? Tailor made cameras/lenses may be the go for optimum results ...............

peterv Posted January 7, 2009 Share #11 Posted January 7, 2009 Just can I accept the G1's EVF ... IMO the G1's EVF is just fine. Not bad at all. Very workable.

tom0511 Posted January 7, 2009 Share #14 Posted January 7, 2009 I find it kind of interesting how some weeks ago everybody was whining about the crop of the M8 and requesting a ff M-sensor and now people now rave about the 2xcrop g1. like_no_other Posted January 7, 2009 Share #16 Posted January 7, 2009 I find it kind of interesting how some weeks ago everybody was whining about the crop of the M8 and requesting a ff M-sensor and now people now rave about the 2xcrop g1.Cheers, Tom Interesting, yes. But understandable as well. I think that many people just like the idea to get something new for their Leica lenses (that is considerable cheaper than Leica products used to be). It's more like buying Leica acessories. 'Oh, it's a fully functional camera.' is a nice side factor. For others it's the new technology of this G1's concept that makes the little thing interesting and the little financial risk compared to M8's price in these difficult times. I'm surprised that these people don't wait for the HD video version of the G1 which was announced at Photokina as well for probably PMA. They must be really hungry to buy new. Without a doubt Leica could sell much of these cameras as well if they had one model on the shelves. If this Oly model had an EVF and a larger sensor I would buy one. It looks very nice. Like a litttle Leica.
peterv Posted January 7, 2009 Share #17 Posted January 7, 2009 Yeah, I've seen this picture around over het RFF and GetDPI. It's big! (pun intended) This lens looks a lot like the upcoming S2 lenses I could practice Thanks
Photon42 Posted January 8, 2009 Share #18 Posted January 8, 2009 IMO the G1's EVF is just fine. Not bad at all. Very workable. You're absolutely right with the G1 finder. I do understand, that a sophisticated optical finder is cost-wise certainly beyond Olympus' target audience. At least a decent EVF design for the Olympus would have been nice. And an accessory view finder wouldn't cut it for me as well - too tedious to use with different focal lengths and it sticks out like a chimney. johnastovall Posted January 8, 2009 Share #19 Posted January 8, 2009 One could mount an optical viewfinder on the flash hotshoe... You can't do the focusing with an optical viewfinder that the G1's EVL allows. That is the key to using so many classic lenses on it. If the Oly doesn't have that it's missing the mark. They need to really look at what their classic PEN was.

Cheers, Sean Sean, I had the impression that it was more of a overall opinion. (However I have not had any problems with the M8s crop-for me the M8 is still uptodate-1 step better noise (1250 in the quality of 640) would be my only wish) Tom
