sfokevin Posted January 4, 2009 Share #1 Â Posted January 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) On the day after New Years I received the vaunted email from Sarah at Leica NJ saying I they are ready to receive my M8 for upgrade (I lined up in October)... Â I was originally wanting to do the Shutter & Rangefinder Mask for $1,275... But as the months have moved by I am having second thoughts?... Â One side of me loves my M8 and wants to keep it in good working trim... The other side says the "Upgrade" does nothing to my final image and I just eyed a sweet Elmarit 21mm at a camera swap meet for about the same price... Â I'm on the edge?... wilfredo Posted January 5, 2009 Share #2 Â Posted January 5, 2009 Can you afford both??????
glenerrolrd Posted January 5, 2009 Share #3 Â Posted January 5, 2009 A significant advantage of the upgrade is the additional one year warranty. The CLA ,warranty and the significant improvement in the shutter may look better a year or so out.

norm_snyder Posted January 5, 2009 Share #5 Â Posted January 5, 2009 Me, too, 'cause I have a second body I'd like to upgrade. Â I opted not to so the framelines, as I wear glasses, can barely see the wider [28mm, for example] frameline, so a larger one wouldn't have been that useful for me, but am completely thrilled with the shutter upgrade. I am now using an upgraded and non-upgraded M8 side by side, and the decrease in vibration, noise [and noticeability] is striking, not to mention the extended warranty. Â I'll upgrade my second body, but may not wait, now, as I'd prefer the lower price. Â By the way, service was great, Sarah's communications were plentiful, rapid and informative. Â Cheers, Norm
marknorton Posted January 5, 2009 Share #6 Â Posted January 5, 2009 I am doing the upgrade mainly to force two of my cameras, both early examples of the M8, through the current QA and adjustment procedures which I hope might put an end, once and for all, to the focus and alignment issues which have dogged my M8 experience to date. doubice Posted January 5, 2009 Share #7 Â Posted January 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mark, Â Are you doing the upgrade to the 'guinea pig' body? Would be great if you could get an extra year warranty on that one! Â I guess I'll have to contact Sarah or Coleen about my upgrades - mine were booked in September..... Â Best, Â Jan
Guest Luis D Posted January 5, 2009 Share #8 Â Posted January 5, 2009 Presently it makes sense to upgrade if only 1. You own now an M8, and 2. You are listed already for the upgrade so to pay the lower price, and 3. You desire the features of the upgrade. It is yet at this time cheaper than to sell and rebuy into M8.2. sfokevin Posted January 5, 2009 Author Share #9 Â Posted January 5, 2009 Thanks all for "enabling" me to see the light... I am completing the FedEx insurance forms right now... Â And I had that swap meet lens vendors card here somewhere....
marknorton Posted January 6, 2009 Share #10 Â Posted January 6, 2009 Are you doing the upgrade to the 'guinea pig' body? Would be great if you could get an extra year warranty on that one! Â Hah! No that one is currently languishing on my workbench due to pressure of other work. They might not like the 30 or so wires coming out of the lens throat...
