dpattinson Posted January 15, 2009 Share #21 Posted January 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've done a couple of author shots. Both of the ones chosen were taken across a table in a cafe (in Beijing). I used the 50 lux asph on the M8 in both cases, and both authors chose B&W. I find the process of sitting down over a coffee and chatting while shooting relaxes them and leads to better expression. There was a lot of nice diffuse light, I exposed to the right - and I chimped the focus to ensure I got them sharp enough. Of course, a dust jacket shot is going to be pretty small - so that's maybe not such a big deal. grober Posted January 16, 2009 Share #24 Posted January 16, 2009 Attached author photo made for the flyleaf of her new book with M8 and 75mm Summicron at about f8. (Yes, the lens wore a Leica UV/IR filter because of the subject's black outfit.) Primary light source was a single Sunpak 383 flash wearing its own difuser, mounted on a light stand about eight feet from the subject. I fired the Sunpak with a wireless flash trigger mounted on the M8. The library where this shot was captured had a ten foot high ceiling painted white. -g Welcome, dear visitor! dpattinson Posted January 16, 2009 Share #25 Posted January 16, 2009 I also like the photo of Lijia Zhang, it's nice to see her hands in the frame. Etienne Michiels I like to have hands in portraits, since they are often quite expressive.
