wda Posted October 16, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 16, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I grew this plant from a small seedling raised at Lacock Abbey gardens this year. It has reached over six feet tall (about 2 metres) and is highly poisonous (ricinus). I had just finished taking some pictures demonstrating the need for gloved hands when touching it when I noticed how threatening it looked against the light. I shot it on my Digilux 2 raw but processed the jpg thumbnail for this image, converting to monochrome in PS SC2. I adjusted levels to achieve the rather stark image I thought portrayed the slightly sinister nature of this plant. Notwithstanding this evil side to its character, it is a strikingly beautiful and architectural plant which does not fail to attract attention. Its fruit looks like upright sticks of red sweet chestnuts. David

fotografr Posted October 22, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 22, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think Pete is suggesting that it bears a striking resemblance to a plant whose products Bob Marley used to smoke rather a lot of. Indeed he did (Marley, that is). I actually smoked some with him in front of his house in Kingston a year before he died. Nearly did me in.
