Now your going to be really surprised at what i say here and it is not meant as a dig or anything else against them. But the cold hard fact is not many of the top shooters know much about digital at all. They have hired guns to be processing there files and digital assistants to put the cards in format and get the camera ready to shoot. Of course there are exceptions to this. i had several top shooters call me for advice on the DMR and the Leica lenses on the Canon bodies and so on and so forth . So I love Annie's work but she probably does not have the time nor desire to actually go test this crap and has a crew to do all the dirty work. I would. I have a close friend that has taught a Geo shooter how to shoot digital. So asking some of these folks to give up there 10 k day rate to do this , frankly will never happen. And anything coming from anyone of them has a full crew behind them to make it perfect. now don't jump all over my case about this but many folks have no clue what the professional world is like. But it certainly is not a gravy job, trust me.

This must really be my week.

All I can do is laugh my friend. Now you know my life from doing the DMR vs the 1dsMKII gig. Never been so abused, even my kids are nicer to me than that. ROTFLMAO

True sign of a troll, doesn't know the difference between "principal" and "principle". Crawl back into your hole! Go on....

Personally, I think people who choose not to reveal their real names should be banned from the forum.

Perhaps you'd like to show us some of your work?

Well maybe, just maybe English is not his primary language which actually is the case with some forumists here.......Edit ABr

"My first language is english, and so should everybody elses be that wished to share the forum with me"

If I'm going to be attacked for my photography this time, I better at least put up examples. Why run when one can head directly into the line of fire? <G>

Dear Non-Disclosure,

If you are going to beat up someone, you should start with the people who named you.

I am a fan of Sean Reid's photography, but perhaps you don't like b/w.

In particular, I find his architectural photography among the best I have seen.

The sensuality of his wedding photog, also superb.

In particular, he has provided those of us who subscribe to his site with invaluable lens reviews in addition to an extremely informative review of the M8.

I have purchased a lens and plan to purchase some software, based on the information on his site.

But tell me, where are Annie's reviews? I didn't know she did anything with small format cameras, or that she was sharing her experience and impressions with others.

You may need the asbestos underpants. Sean writes thoughtful and cogent reviews, and is willing to spend the time doing it, along with discussing them here. He seems to want to share his knowledge, and whilst I don't know Annie Leibovitz's opinion on this, I expect she would not spend the time seeding the enthusiasts as Sean does, even if she were to take the time off picture making to write about cameras.

Chris

Thanks Chris.

You know the irony of this latest attack is that I'm actually one of very few reviewers who is a working photographer. One may or may not like my work but I have been sustaining the effort for over twenty years. In my reviews, I include work that I've done with a given camera or lens. Some of those pictures are better than others but that's how it goes for every photographer.

All,

BTW, Leica did give an M8 to at least one Magnum photographer (I think a few of them, actually) and displayed his work at their booth at Photokina. I thought that it was interesting work and very much in keeping with the tradition of the M camera. Some didn't like it, however, so there's no pleasing everyone and a photographer best not give the naysayers a second thought.

Cheers,

Sean

I don't mind you wasting time on these distractions, but I hope you are going to deliver that TEXAS Leica article on time !!

'Been busy' cannot be an excuse from this point on. Sorry.

"Get back in your room, now"

"Been busy?" - you have no idea what an understatement that would be right now.

We're looking forward to it...

I've bought a 24mm Asph and started loading eBay with MF gear to fund the M8.

Now I've stopped because there's no friggin' way that the M8 can match a Hass or a Mamiya 7 in image quality, by a mile. No way!.

You can't be that and M8 convenient, carry around slide in a pocket petite, fit my Leica lenses and only £3k. So looking forward to it .... ain't quite the description I'd use right now.

Hey, weren't those all taken with a Canonet? Very many years ago.

cheers,

scott

Hi Scott,

Yes, they were made with a brace of Canonets. I was sometimes working late at night in parts of NYC where lots of things can happen. So I carried almost no cash and a camera that I would willingly give up if I was mugged. Fighting a mugger over a Leica at 2:00 Am in Washington Heights wasn't something I wanted to do.

Cheers,

Sean

good work Sean; looks like quite a few are taken from a low point of view like you would get with a rollei or hassleblad. nicely done. probably a subway stealth requirement

Thanks jlw. People obviously have different ideas about what constitutes strong and weak work.

Cheers,

Sean

But seriously, don't you guys ever get tired of testing and just want to see the new digs in the hands of a supreme craftsman?

Why? It won't change the laws of physics. The image quality will not be any better. Different subjects and composition but that's all subjective anyway. It won't make the M8 any more or less than what it is now.

LOL, I knew I would. I have a "Chernobyl" suit on order, haha!

Perhaps that "supreme craftsman" should be you. Since you've placed yourself as the judge of what work is good, bad and mediocre, I'll again ask for your web site so that I can see the work that we should be learning from. If you're going to insult other people's work, don't hide behind an anonymous name. Where's your work? Walk the talk.
