Again from the German language Leica Forum comes another M8 image.

and more from the same source.

I thought there was embargo on these postings.

I'm not very deep in this topic - but as I understood it the testers are in the moment not allowed to show RAW images but only JPEGs as the firmware was not final when these images were made.

Regards

Andreas

HI Andreas

I suppose should it be the other way round. The firmware can for sure largely affect the JPEG processing, so later firmware version must be better. Regarding DNG, I suppose they should be pity much the same intact imho.

Having said that, I agree the embargo should be respected and enforced.

Cheers

Matthew

Well, if Sean Reid is expecting his "production" test camera with final firmware this week, I don't see any reason why a German photographer (a lot closer to Solms) might not have gotten his LAST week. The photo-posting embargo was based on firmware version, not a specific date, no?

The B&W water-and-rocks shot is panicking the folks at photo.net (blown highlights-inky shadows) - but to me it just looks like poor processing.

Good hope the ding bats over there cancel there orders and i get mine sooner. :D

Sorry,

I am NOT a fan of that site, and that maybe a understatement. I will not post over there

Guy, they have clamped down on the trolls over there recently, since Phil Greenspun reclaimed the steering wheel. But, yes, this site and RFF tend to have fewer - distractions.

It IS nice to begin seeing a few shots where the color handling has been brought into line - something that was still obviously "under construction" with the 0.2 firmware.

I hope so Andy i can't even post over there without getting attacked.

I really like this site not becuase we all have Leica's but the attitude here is pleasant and people respect each other. Also on FM i post which in the Alternate section a lot of nice folks are there. Honestly after doing my DMR Vs Canon 1dsMKII i am just not going to accept the grief. I ate a lot of it already and no more.

I do like seeing the images through there progression of firmware and as we see it gets better and better but folks also need to be patient on making rash decisions, get the full picture ( no pun intended ) than start making judgement calls on purchase or not. Every OEM out there has had to deal with pre release images and it is not fun for them when there really not ready to show images. It really can be a blood bath

Flame suit on, but...Why Sean Reid? I looked at his work and it is not up to par of what I expect Leica pros to be putting out. I personally know two Magum shooters and a host of other shooters who might be better "testers" when employing a powerful style on a new M camera. While it is important to get all the peeper-bating out of the way, I just want to see brilliant imagery with this new camera, nothing else really matters.

That is what a Leica is for, masterful imagery, not meeting the testing criteria of some guy I have never heard of in the real, non-internet photography world.

This whole Thom Hogan, Luminous landscape, Ron Resnick internet thing? WTF?

Annie Leibovitz or David Turnley with an M8? Now were talking!

You may need the asbestos underpants. Sean writes thoughtful and cogent reviews, and is willing to spend the time doing it, along with discussing them here. He seems to want to share his knowledge, and whilst I don't know Annie Leibovitz's opinion on this, I expect she would not spend the time seeding the enthusiasts as Sean does, even if she were to take the time off picture making to write about cameras.

LOL, I knew I would. I have a "Chernobyl" suit on order, haha!

But seriously, don't you guys ever get tired of testing and just want to see the new digs in the hands of a supreme craftsman? I am sure Sean is great at the "Reid-Reviews" and if they did not cost to see, I would take a look. ( not broke, just principal )

It just seems that in the last 5 years of the internet photography scene, the cameras and the testers get the most hype while in the real world, the images are still paramount. I don't really want to hear the opinion of Annie, just see what she can do with the camera, ya know?

Sean does help out a lot on the forums and that is good. I would spend time here if it were not worth doing so. I just have to spew some flack because I would feel weird if I were that lauded on the internet, LOL!

Strange new world....

Not sure about Annie Leibovitz personally but I fully understand your point. To be fair to the internet 'gurus' they carry out a lot of the bread and butter testing (something the top shooters are not going to have the time nor inclination to do) that helps towards an informed buying decision.

True sign of a troll, doesn't know the difference between "principal" and "principle". Crawl back into your hole! Go on....

Personally, I think people who choose not to reveal their real names should be banned from the forum.

Perhaps you'd like to show us some of your work?

This must really be my week.

Actually I am a working photographer and I think my work isn't all that bad. At least before you condemn my work entirely, take a look at the subway pictures that are on my site. Most of my pictures are not on the web at all, mostly only the commercial work I do of weddings and architecture. However, since I'm under the microscope once again this week, there's a selection of work also here: Epson R-D1s - Portfolio Sean Reid

Lastly, if you are going to condemn my work, at least pick someone better than Annie Leibovitz as a reference point. To say the least, people can have very different ideas about what constitutes strong work. A lot of commercial work I see leaves me cold.

Since you seem to consider yourself the judge of what work is good and bad, what is your web site URL? I'd like to see the work that we should be learning from.
