troyfreund Posted December 29, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) any thoughts out there as to whether or not a V-lux 2 is in the pipeline? I've always thought the v-lux 1 seemed like a neat alternative when I don't feel like carrying around my DMR, but didn't want to get one and then regret waiting for "the latest" version. Any thoughts, speculation or news to share? Troy
Advertisement Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Hi troyfreund, Take a look here V-Lux2? Is this coming at all?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted December 29, 2008 Share #2 Posted December 29, 2008 I've been wondering if a 2 was in the works. I base this on the USD250 rebate on the 1, good until the end of the year. I've caused several people to by the 1 and the Panasonic equivalent.
troyfreund Posted December 29, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted December 29, 2008 Hey Stuart, How do you find the V-Lux 1? I know I've seen you post pics from it before, but in general how do you feel about it? Do you miss not having much of a wide-angle end on it? That's my biggest worry in considering it. Do you use it in RAW much? How big of enlargements have you made with it? How's the AF speed? Thanks for any answers you've time to provide. stuny Posted December 29, 2008 Share #4 Posted December 29, 2008 Troy - I don't have the V-Lux 1. I have an earlier uncle of it (FZ20) that is on loan to a friend in France. When I traveled to India I used that camera and the D2, so the D2 covered the wider shots, among others. Have a look at the India photos on our site. Some of my most popular posts were with the FZ20 - Camera Ticket man, Spice Girls, Danger is my Business.
bjmike Posted December 30, 2008 Share #5 Posted December 30, 2008 I have the V-Lux 1. Great lens attached to an ok body/controls, wrapped around a mediocre sensor. At that price, you can't have everything. For wide-angle, I popped for the Panasonic Wide-angle converter, which drops the lens down to an effective ~24mm. Its not perfect, but I didn't expect perfection. I'd still rather not have to carry around all my lenses and the Oly 4/3rds body that I use for more serious stuff. I think if your expectations are realistic for this camera, you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for M8 performance, its not there. But, then again, if you're looking for that level of performance, that's what you should spring for. I got to handle a Panny G1 today, for about 15 seconds. Nice size & weight, but that's about all I could think. I'm not happy with the lenses there, but that's due to change.
tommycrown Posted January 1, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 1, 2009 From Panasonic G1, if Leica makes a clean designed G1 to some sort of "G-lux 1" maybe? Still G1 is a very desirable camera, yet I would love to have a micro dSLR with real Leica optics rather than Panasonic lens. Since Leica is paying more attention to full format dSLRs like Canon, Nikon, and Hasselbled, Leica is more likely to put their rest of the capital to S2 than developing another prosumer cameras like V-lux 1. Economy is bad, but Leica still making very and very expensive equipments.
