Disaster recovery sought

I have just formatted an Extreme 111 4GB Sandisk in the camera and realized it was the wrong disk! It had 110 images of my grandchildren and family at our Xmas Eve gathering. The files were shot as RAW DNG only.

I have since removed the card from the camera. Is there any real (practical) hope of recovering the images? I haven't dared tell the family of my stupidity yet. Any helpful advice is very welcome. Thanks.

And yes, in future I WILL always check image content of the card on the LCD before formatting in future.

Erl,

I did exactly the same thing in a moment of inebriated abandon (something I am too prone to at this time of year - i.e. from August to December) and I bought some software called Pareto Logic Data Recovery which did the trick. I'm sure there are others that would do just as well. Good luck and sound advice when I was an amateur pilot applies here - 8 hours from bottle to throttle!!

Happy Christmas. :) :)

The Extreme III 4G comes with a small CD that includes a copy of Sandisk's recovery software. Maybe you still have it.

Spot on Gesper! I have just tried it - succesfully! Originally, I read the instructions that came with that tiny disk and it stated (as I recall) that it recovers tiffs and jpegs. No mention of RAW or DNG's. However, I tried it and it DID work, perfectly on the M8 DNG's. I have now sworn off the bottle (till this evening ;) ) and my family will never know how stupid I am, just how boozed I was. :D

Thanks again to all you level headed techy's.

Now, I f only after washing the dishes, I could get the meal that was on them to reappear like that. Any software for that out there?

Glad to hear it worked out okay, John! PhotoRescue surprised me some months back by turning up not only the DNGs I was looking for but some I'd shot months - and countless card formats - ago.

Relief + internal application of alcohol = spilling the entire story. :D

Keep adding alcohol and your dinner might magically reappear. Eeuuuuw. :p

Pete.
