D-Lux 4 JPGs won´t import into iPhoto on mac

I know Apple hasn´t released raw compatibility for the D-Lux 4 yet, so I was prepared to convert the raw D-Lux 4 files using Capture One or Adobe DNG Converter for the time being, before moving them into Aperture. (Any automated workflow tips for this by the way ... ?)

But I was not prepared for the fact that neither the D-Lux 4 JPGs would import to my mac ! I get an error message at the end of the importing in iPhoto where it says the files were not readable or format not recognizable.

Anyone else seen this ? Any known remedies ? Or am I suppose to convert both JPGs and raw files in Capture One ?! That sucks, and the wife-acceptancy-factor dives through the floor.

I'm also on a Mac (MacBook Pro- OS 10.5.5) and I just checked. The jpgs from my D-Lux 4 are importing into iPhoto without any problems. My iPhoto will also import TIF images made from .RWL in C1. Since I don't ever use iPhoto myself, I haven't upgraded it since version 6.0.6. I know this isn't much of a help, but the problem is apparently in your own setup somewhere.

Thanks Richard, now I know that it probably isn´t the format of the D-lux 4 jpegs that isn´t recognised in iPhoto.

I have tried to fix permissions on my machine, rebooted, formatted the sd card (on the camera), but still "unreadable files" when importing in iphoto.

Anyone else with some OS X knowledge here who could shed som light ?

Edit: By the way, not only do I have a new camera, but I also have not used iphoto since upgrading to OS X 10.5.6... Anyone know if that´s an issue with that upgrade ?

Right. I know also know it´s something wrong with the temp files of iPhoto. Image Capture works just fine with the card from the D-Lux 4...

EDIT: if anyone is interested it was a permission issue in the iphoto library itself, and not in the temp files like the error message seemed to say. Hold down command+alt while you start iphoto and choose to rebuild and fix permissions. Too easy.

ceflynn: Hehe :) But seriously, I also tried to repair permissions through Disk Utility first, to no avail. I actually agree a bit with John Gruber (Daring Fireball) on that it´s what most people recommend you to do no matter what the problem really is. But that still didn´t fix the permissions in the iPhoto Library itself, so I had to read up on the iPhoto startup shortcut to do that as well.

bohtho,

Do you have the URL of the article that you found helpful? The problem was probably that you, as a user, did not own your own iPhoto library, or did not have permission to write to it. I do not see how Disk Utility could repair a user-specific permissions problem, but iPhoto itself could be set up to solve the problem for each user’s iPhoto library. Thanks for making the distinction clear.
