alun Posted December 24, 2008 Share #24 Posted December 24, 2008 I may be wrong here, but I think we are talking about two different issues. The MP Finder was an *upgrade*. The optical DX Reader was a *fix*. My M7 went to Leica MK and then onwards to Solms in 2006 to have a number of glitches fixed which originated in the well documented DX Reader problem. This was replaced -- but when I got it back I found that it had NOT fixed a multiplicity of exposure misreadings.... It turned out that in addition to the problematical DX Reader there was also a faulty circuit board. It went back again and was fixed perfectly. At the same time Leica also upgraded the Finder at no charge. Now, whether this was 'normal' or a courtesy fix, I'm not sure. FWIW, I recall that at the time customer service at Leica MK advised me to grit my teeth and have the camera go back to Germany for the DX Reader fix -- they said this was the preferred and in their view only sure fix. It's been fine ever since with the occasional mysterious blinking red dot that a number of users report which can be cured by tapping the ISO wheel on the backplate... That's a 'feature'. Guest Digiuser Posted January 1, 2009 Share #28 Posted January 1, 2009 The M7 is one of the best Leicas ever built. I use two of them without any problems. There are only two major changes between the one released in 2002 and the actual version. The first one is the integration of an optical DX reader. It performs very well and gives the additional advantage that the film canister comes out easily. The picture of Andy shows the old DX reader. The second major change was the change to the MP viewfinder which avoids flare much better than the old one. The optical DX reader will be changed by the CS if there are any problems with the old one. Normally this change will be done free of charge. It was announced in one of the old Leica World News that all old M7 viewfinders will be upgraded free of charge. Furhermore the warranty of the M7 was extended to 5 years. Which is excellent news. Not sure if it has to go back to Solms, or whether Milton Keynes can handle it, but that question should be answered next week, hopefully.
