ken_nyus Posted December 16, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 16, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know if the much talked about Jan2009 price increase will raise the MP price also? I ask because if the price will go up in Jan2009, I might as well give in to my desire and purchase one sooner rather than later.
Advertisement Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Hi ken_nyus, Take a look here will MP price increase in Jan 2009?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted December 16, 2008 Share #2 Posted December 16, 2008 Well, it's almost certainly not going to go down in price so I'd go for it!
ken_nyus Posted December 16, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted December 16, 2008 I've learned the lesson that prices only seem to go up, sometimes twice a year! I forgot to add that I am in the US.
ken_nyus Posted December 16, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted December 16, 2008 To help answer my own question, I just spoke to PhotoVillage in NYC, and they have not heard of any price increase at all yet.
peter_n Posted December 16, 2008 Share #5 Posted December 16, 2008 "Yet" is undoubtedly the operative word. They will go up, sooner or later.
abrewer Posted December 18, 2008 Share #6 Posted December 18, 2008 I cannot imagine there will be a better time in your lifetime than right now to buy an MP I've noticed the dollar is beginning to weaken now, as it must given how much money our government is printing, and it's going to make imported goods more expensive down the road (probably as soon as next summer) Do it now and enjoy the new camera over Christmas and New Year's holidays
MPJMP Posted December 18, 2008 Share #7 Posted December 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought my MP new in 2004 for US$2,400. Now they are, what, US$4,000?? And used they sell for what they were new just 4 years ago! Other than gasoline, I can't think of anything else that has inflated that much in price over the same time period. If you can afford it today, get it today, because you may not be able to afford it tomorrow.
marknorton Posted December 18, 2008 Share #8 Posted December 18, 2008 The price increases I heard about were (for the UK) pretty awful, including the M7 and MP, something like 15% but then our beloved currency is in free fall. I've brought forwards some Nikon lens purchases as well simply because the Yen is so strong and their prices are bound to rise at some point. No wonder the D3x seems expensive. Guest darkstar2004 Posted December 20, 2008 Share #9 Posted December 20, 2008 I bought my MP new in 2004 for US$2,400. Now they are, what, US$4,000?? If you can afford it today, get it today, because you may not be able to afford it tomorrow. My thoughts exactly. With the prices of M gear, I am beginning to doubt if I will ever acquire another new lens - or a nice used one for that matter. I guess Leica invented the Summarit line of lenses for we cur dogs who don't have "Lifestyles of the Rich and Fabulous" bank accounts...
marke Posted December 20, 2008 Share #10 Posted December 20, 2008 I bought my MP new in 2004 for US$2,400. Now they are, what, US$4,000?? And used they sell for what they were new just 4 years ago! Other than gasoline, I can't think of anything else that has inflated that much in price over the same time period. If you can afford it today, get it today, because you may not be able to afford it tomorrow. I bought mine new last January for $2,400. I just kept looking until I found one at a great price. And seeing what they are selling for now, I guess I timed that one right!

treeplanter Posted December 26, 2008 Share #12 Posted December 26, 2008 Does anyone know if the much talked about Jan2009 price increase will raise the MP price also? Tony Rose, who runs Popflash Photo, hinted on RFF that there's going to be a big price increase on some Leica stuff February, 2009. Don't know if this will include the MP or not. Jim B.
