Photoskeptic Posted December 11, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Unfortunately I've had to replace my computer with a new one which runs Windows Vista. My problem is I can't get the new computer to recognise my Minolta 5400 scanner. Has anyone run into this problem and if so, how did you solve it? Thanks for all replies. Advertisement Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Hi Photoskeptic, Take a look here Help! Old scanner & Windows Vista. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted December 11, 2008 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2008 The Minolta was possibly discontinued before Vista was released. Try downloading the trial version of Vuescan to see if that works - VueScan Scanning Software - I think it can use it's own driver rather than the scanner's. davidmires Posted December 11, 2008 Share #3 Posted December 11, 2008 Yes, what Steve said. I had the same problem. Vue-scan works, but it will set you back 80 clams (U.S.) #%*@! Vista $#^!
Photoskeptic Posted December 11, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted December 11, 2008 Thanks for the replies. I've got SilverFast, but it won't recognize the scanner. Yes, what I need is a driver which will work with the Minolta. I don't mind doing the VueScan thing, but really prefer SF over VS. I've put in a question to SF about this. I had always thought SF used it's own drivers also, but I guess that's wrong.

It worked on my Vista 64 bit and my Nikon LS9000 / 5000. Now I don't need to switch to my XP hard-drive. I used my 2005 serial number and they still honor. zeitz Posted December 13, 2008 Share #6 Posted December 13, 2008 I did a lot of searching too. Us KM5400 owners must with Windows XP. If there is a driver out there for Vista, it is well hidden.
andybarton Posted December 13, 2008 Share #7 Posted December 13, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd be amazed if Vuescan didn't give you the solution for the Vista issue with the Minolta
Photoskeptic Posted December 13, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted December 13, 2008 Steve, you hit the nail on the head! Vuescan solved everything, well everything except my rookie status with Vuescan. But I'm getting more familiar with every scan An added bonus is that my scans are now significantly faster. I'm now a convert from Silverfast.
