mojobebop Posted December 9, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 9, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I'm wondering if there are any reputable painting services for leicas. Acquiring a chrome m5, and in case I want to paint it. I'm assuming they have to disassemble the camera, and would want someone expert in those matters. Thanks in advance

doubice Posted December 9, 2008 Share #4 Posted December 9, 2008 Hi, I'm wondering if there are any reputable painting services for leicas. Acquiring a chrome m5, and in case I want to paint it. I'm assuming they have to disassemble the camera, andwould want someone expert in those matters. Thanks in advance I assume that you are referring to a 'chrome' chrome rather than to a 'black' chrome, as all M5's were chromed. I hope you realize that a 'chrome' chrome M5's are much rarer than their black versions? I would never paint one...... You did not tell us why you want to 'paint' the camera - M5's were never painted, rather chromed in bright or black chrome. Yes, the camera would have to be disassembled and all original finish removed to perform this kind of restoration. Also, all parts have to be removed from the top and bottom plates - cranks, winders, shoe, ASA dial, RF windows, flash sync outlet, shutter speed dial etc. Best, Jan
wizard Posted December 9, 2008 Share #5 Posted December 9, 2008 Much cheaper to buy a second one in black, if that is what you want. Andy

Shootist Posted December 10, 2008 Share #8 Posted December 10, 2008 also less obvious for street shooting. This is the biggest myth going. Black/chrome doesn't matter. It's how you present yourself. Don't paint a silver chrome M5.
