techpan Posted December 1, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just picked up a mint summilux asph black for 2500 on ebay. I wanted to ask if the price is decent? The lens is in perfect condition with the newer silver box. Advertisement Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Hi techpan, Take a look here Summilux 50mm ASPH - Price?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gwelland Posted December 1, 2008 Share #2 Posted December 1, 2008 If it's truly in mint condition then I'd say you got an OK deal. It's not coded but that's not really significant for this lens - and then only if you're using it with an M8. I bought an ex-demo 6 bit coded with warranty a few weeks ago from a dealer for $3150. What's significant about the '1st batch' of Summilux's?
antistatic Posted December 1, 2008 Share #3 Posted December 1, 2008 I bought mine ex demo with boxes and 6 bit coding, here in Australia, about three months ago for the equivalent of about US$2270. This may look like a bargin however this is only because the Aussie dollar had dropped from about US$0.98 to US$0.65. I still had to pay for it in Australian dollars The beauty of the photos from this lens will be remembered long after the price has been forgotten.(or so I told my wife)
epand56 Posted December 1, 2008 Share #4 Posted December 1, 2008 Just bought a mint silver one 6bit coded at 1750 euros. I saw that prices for the 50 Lux Asph have quite a wide range, but didn't se a mint one under 1600 - 1700 euros David, that's the same I told my wife... TimF Posted December 1, 2008 Share #5 Posted December 1, 2008 I bought mine new for £1899 UKP. The $2500 you paid is about £1644, so I agree - an OK if not earth-shattering deal. Also agree totally with David - quality will be remembered long after the price is forgotten.
stunsworth Posted December 1, 2008 Share #6 Posted December 1, 2008 I'm guessing you're from the States and the sum you've quoted is USD. Remember it's a worldwide forum so it helps to quote the currency. Price seems a little bit high to me given that it's coming from eBay, but nothing to get too worried about. I can't look at eBay here at work, but I assume that it's from a reputable seller.

marknorton Posted December 1, 2008 Share #8 Posted December 1, 2008 I paid $1990 (then, £1245) for the lens two years ago, also ebay, also HK. Leica prices have continued their inexorable rise since then so I don't think $2500 is too bad, providing the condition is as described. The lens has one of the most complex mounts of any M lens and can be stiff; it may loosen up; mine didn't and I sent it back to Leica who proceeded to mess up the focus alignment. abrewer Posted December 1, 2008 Share #9 Posted December 1, 2008 I got mine from a private individual at $1800 two years ago but I had to drive to Detroit to pick it up But, as is pointed out above, prices have risen dramatically since that time so it's not a fair comparison
tgray Posted December 1, 2008 Share #10 Posted December 1, 2008 I was recently in the market for one and saw some go for $2300. Most were priced above that. Though I think you could find them for cheaper, I began to think that $2300 was near the low end of what was reasonably obtainable, without finding a ridiculous deal. I ended up buying a new one from some one in Thailand. Well, the lens was shipped from Europe, so I'm guessing he was playing VAT/exchange rate game. Whatever. It was new in box for $2700, so I'm happy.
leicanut2 Posted December 7, 2008 Share #11 Posted December 7, 2008 Just picked up one yesterday at Demo day ( new old stock coded asph ) for 2500 how old can it be. I was the first one to take it out of the box. When they first came out B&H had them for 2295.00 so I feel good. They made a bit more on it but they could have said 3595.00 that is the price today. I think when I said I was comparison shopping they dropped it a 1,000 bucks. Better to sell it than have it sit longer in there stock. HMMM Way better than 10% on Demo day. Cheers and Merry X-Mass to all.. Jan

leicapages Posted December 10, 2008 Share #15 Posted December 10, 2008 Am I the only one being constantly surprised at how people try to sell off goods which they claim to be "new" and/or "unopened, sealed in the box etc", while at the same time offering pictures of the actual good on the web, sometimes even adding that it has only been "opened for testing" or, worse, that they have actually "tested" it... In my view, these are then no longer "new" or "unopened". This is not necessarily related to this auctioning, but a general remark.
