Sorry no - pulling leg I'm afraid. I was mainly pitching in on the red dot thing which I think is a pile of s... No-one knows Leica so a red-dot does not attract any attention from anyone. No need for black tape etc.

Hey Simon. I have the Leica version of that cable release for my Digilux 3, so I can try it in the D-Lux 4 later tonight and let you know. I'm pretty sure this "feature" isn't mentioned in the manual, and not sure what hole I'll plug it in to (insert tasteless joke here ;)), but I'll give it a try!

Jeff.

This will not work. Where the Digilux 3 has a video out/remote port that accepts the remotes mini-headphone looking plug, the D-Lux 4 ports all resemble mini-USB (ie, they're not circular).

If this is important to you though, there is a guy who makes a contraption that slots in to the hotshoe on the D-Lux 4/LX3 and uses an M style cable release (see about halfway down the page): Kleptography - Don Ellis - Richard Franiec's Components

Michiel - I only saw what I presume is the standard case that comes with the camera. No room for anything else.

James - no need for tape - no red dot - apparently there was much discussion re this.

But it still clearly says Leica in silver script on the Titanium. Chrome or Black with a red dot is fine, easy to camo with duck tape, but this???? It really begs the question doesn't it?

Thanks a lot for the link, Jeff ... I do a lot of long exposures and occasionally some pano stitches so yes, it is a must. It's just too bad a $1000 camera has overlooked such a small hole.. ;):p

Cheers!

Is anyone still interested in taking pictures with this marvel of Panasonic technology or is it all just about the red dot, titan body and which leather case looks best?

How cool! It takes pictures, too? As for the lack of red dot, a little fingernail polish and: Voila! Its all fixed!

Long exposures require a camera support, so have you not tried the timer release method? I don't possess the subject camera but I do use that simple technique with a range of equipment. Of course you do not have the fine control over the exact moment of desired release, but it is a very practical alternative solution particularly if you can select the shortest delay of 2 seconds.

In the current D2 thread I posted a picture of a sleeping cat which I grabbed the other night. Exposure was 1/2 second.

Thanks a lot for the advice, David.

I do carry a Giottos mini tripod wherever I go since I only shoot at lowest possible ISO with these pocket digital cameras. It's true that I can try the timer release method but as you've pointed out, then you lose the fine control of desired release moment.

I hope Leica could add this little piece if they're bound to make a D Lux 5.

Me too, with all my digital equipment. My film cameras (which mostly now gather dust) had a much longer useful life than digital cameras. I hate to spend money on something (like a remote release) which is undoubtedly overpriced and has a limited useful life. The next camera model that comes inevitably is incompatible with the previous camera's accessories. :(

Die Ledertasche ist sehr schoen. :)
