symmetron Posted November 28, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 28, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) It appears that the LCD on the DLux 4 is not impervious to scratches. It feels like plastic instead of scratch resistant glass. Am I wrong? Anyway, could someone recommend a high quality glass LCD protector that is custom fit to the DLux-4? I hate those laminate films such as those used on PDAs. Thanks.

Actually, very few P&S (if any) have a scratch resistant glass - all of their LCD's are plastic. I am with you however, and would like to find an alternative to the clear protective plastic sheets. I bought a used Canon G7, which has a hard plastic sheet, about 0.5 to 1mm thick over the LCD. It is perfect but, I can't find where it came from. It is getting scratched and I would love to have one for the M8 and Digilux 2 as well! As I finished this post - a name popped into my feeble brain - Giotto's. They make hard glass covers and possibly hard plastic covers as well. Google, here we go....... Best, Jan
doubice Posted November 28, 2008 Share #3 Posted November 28, 2008 And - here is the link: GIOTTO'S-Professional Photographic Equipment Not a particularly informative or, well designed website and it seems that only glass protectors are available. symmetron Posted November 28, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted November 28, 2008 I did some digging...actually surfing and found a company called Invisible Shield that was recommended on a Panasonic website regarding the same issue for LX-3. They have a military grade (whatever that really means) protector that sells for $11.95 designed specifically for the LX-3 (DL4). So I ordered one. Prior to that, I also checked the Giottos site and there's nothing there in terms of exactly cut Schott glass that's specific to the LX-3 or DL-4. I tried the Giottos laminate by cutting a piece to size for the DL4, but it really inhibitied the performance of the LCD and when taking it off, it left a adhesive residue that was tough to remove. mhoutman Posted November 29, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 29, 2008 a month ago i had the same problem. I contacted giotto's first but they have no custom shield for the d-lux 4 (yet). after some though investigation i also came at ZAGG | invisibleSHIELD | iPhone, iPod Cases, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Skins, Invisible Shield (invisibleSHIELD). i bought a protector for my old d-lux 3, d-lux 4, 2 iphones and my wifes 450D. my m8 has the saffire zagg send the stuff from the uk and i got it in three days. the application of the invisbleSHIELD was very easy (i have two left hands) and i am very satified. recommended !! oldnikonman Posted November 29, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 29, 2008 Digi-Cover LCD Screen Protector for Leica D-Lux 3 & Panasonic DMC-LX 2 I used this on my D-Lux 4 it fits perfectly and is very clear. I used the wet method of fitting as per instructions and as stated it was dry within 30 mins and by two days later there was no bloom or bubbles as per instructions, when the screen is on you cannot tell its there. I was dubious about the wet method but it was only one drop of water with washing up liquid in the centre of the screen and the protector was able to slide into place with the aid of two selotape "handles" easily removed afterwards. skimmel Posted November 29, 2008 Share #7 Posted November 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I went through several different brands for my M8 and it wasn't until I tried InvisibleShield that I found one that stayed on and seems to be working very well. I just order the LX3 version for my D-Lux4.
jimbo035 Posted April 2, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 2, 2009 I have fitted the optical glass GGS protector (made for the LX3) to my D-Lux 4. A perfect fit, but I am still plagued by reflections making the monitor hard to see in bright ambient light. Of course the monitor brightness can be adjusted "in camera" which improves matters slightly, and consequently found the Giotto product website at SP_new Their protectors are described as having "multi-layer anti reflective coatings" but neither the D-Lux 4 nor LX3 are listed. Nevertheless for "Other cameras" there is a three inch protector, metric dimensions being 65.95 x 49.3 millimetres. Sounds as though this is just what I want, although I'll have to lift GGS one off to check the monitor screen's actual dimensions...
bluebear Posted July 17, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 17, 2009 I used the Zagg protector - it seemed odd using the wet application, but it has certainly worked! I had previously tried other protectors but none of them worked as well as as this does. Very pleased wth it
blimey Posted July 24, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 24, 2009 GGS protector works well for me.
john_newell Posted July 24, 2009 Share #11 Posted July 24, 2009 I have used Zagg/Invisible Shield, Acmaxx acrylic and GGS glass. I've ripped all the Zagg ones off my cameras because they display an orange-peel effect that is somewhat annoying and in use they eventually pick up a lot of small scratches that make them even less "clear." I am on the fence between the Acmaxx and GGS. The Acmaxx probably offers more impact protection but I assume will eventually start to show scratches also. regedit Posted July 28, 2009 Share #12 Posted July 28, 2009 I also use Zagg and I'm pleased. My first impression was that actually boost a little bit the contrast of the screen. Until now is as advertised - scratch proof!
