Advertisement Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Hi meng8123, Take a look here thinking R9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mongrelnomad Posted November 28, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 28, 2008 I am thinking to get R9, but does anyone know if R9 is any good compare with M7? Chalk and cheeze. One's an SLR (with one of the best viewfinders I've ever seen), the other's a rangefinder. Both wonderful cameras, just depends what you're looking for. earleygallery Posted November 28, 2008 Share #3 Posted November 28, 2008 Indeed you can't really make any comparison, horses for courses. If you prefer zoom lenses, telephoto lenses or do much macro work or sports/wildlife, then you need the SLR. If you mostly shoot wideangle/standard, street and general photography, then the M is probably the better option (assuming you like the rangefinder - some people don't, so if you've only used an SLR I would suggest trying one out first if at all possible). meng8123 Posted November 28, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted November 28, 2008 Thanks for the advise; What I mean by compare both is the image quality wise; I want that leica image quality feel from the M7, does R9 up to this task?
andybarton Posted November 28, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 28, 2008 Leica R lenses are generally of an older design than the equivalent M ones, but many of them are equal to their M counterparts, IMHO. For example, the latest 28 Elmarit-R is a fantastic lens, the 90mm share the same design, and some lenses are only available for the R (19mm and 60 Macro for example) There are some incredible bargains in the R lens line at the moment
mongrelnomad Posted November 28, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 28, 2008 My 35mm Summicron-R with macro is an absolute peach of a lense...
earleygallery Posted November 28, 2008 Share #7 Posted November 28, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the older version Summicron R, which is superb. I know of a pro photographer who has a Leica R body just so that he can use this lens (don't know if he uses it on a Canon too..) It's an older design than the current M lens, of course, but also different in its fingerprint to the earlier M Summicrons from what I have seen. Depending upon your needs, there really are some fantastic choices available, and cheap (by Leica standards), too!
harrisfoto Posted November 29, 2008 Share #9 Posted November 29, 2008 why an R9 vs an R6 or R6.2? With an MP you would be shooting mostly manual as well.
Guest Posto 6 Posted November 30, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 30, 2008 why an R9 vs an R6 or R6.2? With an MP you would be shooting mostly manual as well. Or for that matter, an SL2 or SL2 MOT?
meng8123 Posted November 30, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted November 30, 2008 thanks for all the suggestions, I choose R9 is because it is somewhat newer model and also the price, like others have said, is really all time low. Anyhow, thanks again, I think I made up my mind for a R9 and a summicron 50mm. maybe later, I'll get 35 and 80mm.

symmetron Posted December 2, 2008 Share #13 Posted December 2, 2008 You should seriously consider an R8 as well. Prices are low and the R8 and R9 are almost the same camera, but the R9 is considerably more expensive.
