mindlessdocumentation Posted November 26, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello again, I have just lost my 35mm Summicron tupperware-style cap for the second time in five years. While I admit this is MY fault, it appears the cap/hood design is not wholly compatible with me. I'm curious if anyone is using a second-party hood and cap. In particular, I'm looking at this one from Heavystar: New Metal 39mm Vented Hood & Cap for Leica Summicron The price is hard to argue with, which of course makes me suspicious. Anyone familiar with it?

bill Posted November 26, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 26, 2008 Funnily enough (must be the season for it) this is also being discussed here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/70152-effing-lens-cap-has-fallen-off.html together with some useful suggestions. I have a couple of Heavystar hoods and step rings and have found them prompt and courteous to deal with, and the products are robust and well-made. Buy with confidence. luigi bertolotti Posted November 26, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 26, 2008 Agree... twice in 5 years is a good performance... my first disappeared 3 months after it arrived...(*) so I'll think I won't buy a 2nd original... (*) but, admit, "it told me it"... at least 4 or 5 "lost+found" before the final "lost"...
abrewer Posted November 27, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 27, 2008 I've had more difficulty with the hard plastic cap than the rubber one on the hood--two purchases in four years (so far)
