leather strap lug protectors for Digilux 2

Would anyone know where these leather protectors can be purchased? These are the one's that fit around the neck strap and the lugs to protect the body. Thanks

It seems to me, those were added to the kit by Leica after it became apparent that the strap design was not good. Maybe just contact Leica via their web page?

There is another alternative. Domke makes a very nice gripper strap that also has the leather lug protectors. It's a very nice design and comes in 3 colors (tan, black, and blue). Prices ranges from $15.00 - $18.00. I like the quick release model.

You can check them out on their website. Just do a search with Domke and Tiffen.

You can certainly make these. Get some soft leather, cut a nickel-sized circle, spike the center so the lug can come thru, and place it with the unsmooth side toward the camera body.

You can get this stuff at any shop that handles sewing goods.

Actually, this is my favorite solution. Speaking from experience, I can tell you, these are FABULOUS. And, Luigi is GREAT to deal with.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. John, those camera straps are really nice. Well I followed Bill's advice and made my own from an old pair of leather gloves. They look very similar to the one's that are being sent by Leica (I have those on another D2) but just a bit larger. Works fine and looks almost as good as the originals.

John,

What do you mean you have "a Panasonic coming" ..?

No, you did not!

Yes you did!

In fact, I had a black Panasonic DMC LC1 that I made completely stealth-black. Apart from the copy-cat feeling about it, it was a nice camera.

Anyways. Completely OT: I have a gentleman who have questioned if the SD-card speed rates I have on leica.overgaard.dk - Thorsten Overgaard's Leica Sites - Leica Digilux 2 sample photos and tests (as well as Panasonic DMC-LC1) are correct as he has tried a 150X card and with that the speed of RAW is faster.

If you have the possibility to test it (I have no 150X cards and can't get them currently), I would be very happy. The way I originally tested it was shooting series of three and/or one shot and then see how long went from pressing the shutter till the camera WAS READY TO TAKE ANOTHER SHOT (which is the only thing interesting; when can I continue shooting).

Terrific. What a great idea. How 'bout a pic?

Overgaard, I have some 2GB Ridata 150x cards. Doing the same test, that is filling the buffer and counting the seconds to the end of the blinking light, I find 10 raw shots to fill the buffer, then about 20 seconds to clear the light. I get the same result when using a Sandisk Ultra II that is supposedly rated at 60x. Note: review is off.

That is, I don't see extra speed from the 150x card when writing by the M8.

I haven't clocked the speed of the cards from the reader to the computer -- I'd rather go fill my coffee cup and this function doesn't affect the picture taking.

Hello Bill,

I will see if I can post a picture in the next few days. Can you tell me how do I post a picture and what size should it be?

When you're posting a reply, there is an image upload section near the bottom of the page. It includes sizes, but I typically make a jpeg that is 960 pixels on the long side. It must be 244kb or smaller.

You'll see it all in the image management section.

This is a shot of my Digilux 2 with home made leather lug protectors made from an old pair of leather gloves. You could make them smaller if you want.

I'm using the Sandisk Extreme III 2GB - they don't rate their cards as 133x or such.

I will see if I can run a test ...

The cards blaze at download... literally under two minutes download for a full card. Shooting raw in the Digilux 2, though... still like waiting for paint to dry. LOL - 5 seconds or 6 seconds... it's all the same to me. She'll have her clothes back on before I'm ready to shoot again. (did he really say that?)

And, yes.... the Panasonic is on the way. Though the local gendarme might be right behind the delivery man. I "stole" this thing. :)

BTW.... Preview ALWAYS OFF!!!! LOL - In sports shooting, we call that "chimping." Rightfully named in the early days of digital when a photographer glanced over toward a group of digital shooters and they were all staring at the back of their cameras pointing and going.... "oooh, ahh ahh.... ooh, ooh, ahh"

Oh, they still do that here in Denmark - look at their displays.

I always have the preview on in the EVF so that when I shoot in series of three (which I always does), I get a preview of the last of the three, enabling me to adjust the manual settings on he fly.

But I guess it's time for a re-learn of the D2 in that regard. I could be wrong, though I doubt if ;-)

As for that thing you didn't say. As long as you have a good shot - and a clear recollection - of her, it doesn't matter :o)

Overgaard, I led you astray. The timings I posted are for the M8. Nuts. With my D2 I always leave the preview on. There's no way to get around the 6sec write for a raw pic.
