Resolution comparisons

Just curious... I wonder how the new Leica compact cameras, like the D Lux 4, V Lux, Digilux 2 & 3, might compair to the Kodak DCS14n DSLR? I purchased a 14n in 03, when it was considered to have the highest resolution/sharpness of anything out there! I have also a D Lux 4 that I am very impressed with! Kodak DCS14n $4900.00, D Lux 4 $849??? I have read some older reviews of the DCS14n and of course, newer reviews of the D Lux 4, and cannot find a direct sharpness/res. correlation. Also is the Digilux 3, for instance, sharper than the D Lux 4?

Thanks

Gary

I would say sharpness come in two sizes.

One is the edge sharpness you can see when you blow up a picture. Which is the same sharpness you can enhance electronically.

The other is depending on the lens' ability to handle light and colors, as well as the sensors to do the same, and is resulting in apparent sharpness - a detail of colors and details that comes from the duplication of colors, shadows, shapes, etc.

In a way: The same difference you see when you see something with lots of sunlight and everything is clear, and then when you see the same with less or little light where it doesn't appear as clear.

Add to that resolution of sensor and noise.

So all this without answering your actual question :-) I guess the Digilux 2 is VERY sharp because of the lens and the way the sensor "sees." But the Digilux 3 should appear sharper in details because there's less ISO/sensor noise and better resolution, as well as a lens that is about par with the one of Digilux 2.

I personallt doubt the D-Lux 4 is up to that, even with more MP, but that's just from the samples I've seen online.
