I have some ideas for the next one, btw. The problem will be finding a dinner venue and menu as good as the last one for the same money :)

I think the biggest improvemnt this year was that most of us were able to get together in the evening. After considering this for some time I think it helped a lot that Pascal was able to book the resto and choose such a pleasant place to eat - I'd walked within 100 metres of the pace dozens of times but never realised that it was there.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we perhaps ought to be looking for a person who lives in or near the selected town, not to be in charge of the 'challenge', but to book a reasonable restaurant. Any volunteers?

"The Marsh Cat"

400 yards from our house.

Very nice.

I can sort it. Upstairs.

Sunsets to die for (guaranteed...)

:)

I'll provide a bus to Liverpool, and I'll put a tent up in the garden for anyone who wants to stay over here...

We should go to Liverpool in 2008, to be honest. "European City of Culture", and all that. Easyjet from all over the place, 2 hours from London on the train. (I'm being serious)

Melbourne has great variety of shooting locations, is the eating capitol of the world and is less than 30 hours (mostly) flying time from anywhere.:D

Trust me, I'm a photographer.

LOL

2 hours of a british train equals 4 or 5 hours of a continental one? Sorry, just had a bad experience last time with a York/London train.

I've been to Liverpool more than 20 years ago, when Tatcher was P.M. It was on a Sunday and we crossed exactly 3 people in the streets and found only a McDonald open to eat.

I guess it has changed a lot since.

Hi Andy

There is a serious issue around attracting photographers from as wide a field as possible, including (as in the case of Erl) from other continents - somewhere like Liverpool probably does have an appeal but largely within the UK - the hassle of changing flights to get to Liverpool's airport, or getting trains could easily put people off, too.

There are many cities with attractive photographic venues ( Bristol for example has old bridges, boats, guys doing stuff in the streets and it's own compliment of wierd silver spheres that no-one seems to know what to do with - as well as an active international airport) but that's different from somewhere which captures the imagination of photographers across the world.

Vienna, Amsterdam, Berlin could do it, maybe even Brussels.

One suggestion that I have heard mooted is on a slightly different tack and that is it might be a good idea to go to Solms or nearby - there's bound to be some things to photograph locally and a trip round the Leica factory could be thrown in - it might be a good time to strengthen the relations between Leica and the forum.

That's not a bad idea.

I also fancy Florence/Venice/Sienna

Not sure whether the choice in the last couple of years was democratic or not... ;)

However, we have got to get this year's Challenge sorted out yet...

Here is a teaser from that weird "square" they have and race horses. M6, CV25/4, Fuji Astia.
