wilfredo Posted October 7, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 7, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The new Epson 3800 printer seems to be very exciting. Does anyone know what ColorBurst RIP is? It is an optional feature on the new printer. Go to: Epson Stylus Pro 3800 for a preview of the Epson 3800. starwatcher Posted October 7, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 7, 2006 have no answer with regard to the RIP, but read that Photo Black and Matte Black can be selected via PC, so looks like that they are installed in parallel within the printer. That is really progress, and 80ml cartridges... I should sell my R2400

robbegibson Posted October 7, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 7, 2006 I've been using the Colorburst rip on a mac since it was introduced. The print quality is much better -colors are accurate and consistent. A wide variety of paper profiles are available. When you get the rip with the printer, all the rip support is through epson. I bought mine from Colorburst, so I don't know how epson handles things. You still have to change the matte and glossy black cartridges -(from the epson website) Black ink conversion times Matte to Photo Black 2:55 min:sec Photo to Matte Black 1:55 min:sec Ink used during conversion2 Matte to Photo Black Approx. 4.5 ml Photo to Matte Black Approx. 1.5 ml Take care, Robbe Gibson http://www.robbegibson.com

robbegibson Posted October 8, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 8, 2006 Hi Klaus, The way they word that 'auto select' stuff, it's kind of hard to guess what the changeover is. I don't have a 3800 but I do have a 4800 and 7600. One thing nice about the Colorburst rip is the ability to switch between the two printers -it's just a selection on a pull-down menu and when you select a printer, all the profile selections change at the same time. They have a 15day demo if one wanted to try it. Thanks, Robbe
wilfredo Posted October 8, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted October 8, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) It sounds like the Colorburst Rip is a worthy tool, and it is only $200 extra. I think this will be my next printer. Cheers, Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography
