vertekijker Posted November 7, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 7, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I looked on the Leica website, I noticed that the 28mm summicron is now also available in chrome/silver. But it did not mention the weight of the chrome version. Does anyone have that information? Thank you, Frans
Advertisement Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Hi vertekijker, Take a look here Weight 28mm summicron chrome. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted November 7, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 7, 2008 I don't think the weight is any different to the black version. My understanding is that the silver version of the 28 is not like recent chrome lenses which use more brass than the equivalent black lens in the construction. vertekijker Posted November 7, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted November 7, 2008 That makes it a very interesting lens. Wonder why they didn't do that before. ---------------- Frans
Guest Joachim_I Posted November 7, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 7, 2008 It has the same weight as the black version. Brass has been replaced with aluminium for this particular lens. Joachim PS: I was too slow. I expect the new lens will not be as scratch resistant as the old chrome lenses.

georg Posted November 7, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 7, 2008 The black lenses are made out of anodized aluminium, the silver lenses were made out of brass and have a chrome surface. They never used silver anodizing because they weren't happy with the surface quality till now. I was able to handle the silver 28mm, it's a little bit more "shiny" in comparison to the chrome lenses but looks very well. But I didn't test the scratch resistance ;-) It's propably as scratch resistant as the black lenses.

Cost 3100€ ($3968) instead of 2995€ ($3884) for the black one.

MP3 Posted November 17, 2008 Share #9 Posted November 17, 2008 Hi, I just got one. It is of the same physical dimension and weight as the black version, 270 gm. The silver surface of this lens is very appealing as compared to my chrome Summicron 35 ver 1.
Melampus Posted November 19, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 19, 2008 Would you mind posting a picture with it mounted on a camera? Many thanks. Cheers, -Peter
Mauribix Posted November 20, 2008 Share #11 Posted November 20, 2008 I love the weight of the new 28cron silver. It's the same as the black one, being aluminium too, my guess is that it is somehow more resistant to scratches. The silver finish is not really like the brass one, but it's hard to tell a difference. Here are some shots of my 28cron + 50lux and 90cron beside. Welcome, dear visitor!
