john_j Posted November 4, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 4, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi- I downloaded Capture 4.5.1 last night. I removed my previous version before installing the update as per the notes. When I open Capture I, it usually crashes. I'm using a Mac Pro dual 2.8's, 10 gig RAM, OS 10.5.5. Any ideas? Thanks,

erl Posted November 4, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 4, 2008 John, I am having similar problems on a PC. Can't quote (easily) the exact computer specs but it is less than a year old and no slouch. I uninstalled 4.5.1 and went back to 4.1 as I have a large volume of files to process from a 3 week shoot. I hope someone else comes up with a solution as I do like the c1 processing. Photoskeptic Posted November 4, 2008 Share #3 Posted November 4, 2008 Over on the Luminous Landscape forum there is a warning about this software!! The manufacturer seems to be at a loss and is pulling out all the stops to fix it, but in the meantime users are warned not to use it.
eckart Posted November 4, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 4, 2008 Thanks for the warning Gents. I just was thinking about to upgrade my C1

robsteve Posted November 5, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 5, 2008 I had crashing problems and traced it back to some custom profiles. If you are having a crashing problem, are you using a custom output profile? In my case I was using a JH Dcam4 profile. When I changed back to Prophoto, the crashing stopped. john_j Posted November 5, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted November 5, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All- Thanks for getting back with your comments. I cannot open Phase one at all so I cannot change anything. I'm going to dump it again and wait to hear. For now, I'm back to PhotoShop CS3. I was liking it better anyway for the added control in RAW and then the easy open to PhotoShop for additional tweaks without having to save it out to tiff or jpeg first. Best, Actualy John I never saw the point to C1. I have had almost all versions installed since getting a M8 but never really used it as I simply didn't like it and I'm more accustom to ACR/PS. Thanks for starting this thread. I had downloaded the newest version but had not got around to installing it. Now I won't.
john_j Posted November 6, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted November 6, 2008 I have spent much of the day on various forums. 4.5.2 is out. I deleted all Capture One libraries and installed this new version. It open fine over & over no crashing. When opening a large file of photos (2.5 gigs in this case), it crashed 3 times before finally opening. It's getting closer.
erl Posted November 6, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 6, 2008 John, thanks for that update on progress. It is heartening. I think I will wait a little longer before installing the new upgrade as I am working on a large batch of files at prersent and have no wish to need re-working them if the processor fails. I am curious about the other forums you were researching this on. I would be keen to visit them if you can easily list them. I want to keep up to date on progress. Phase One seem to be saying nothing (that I can find) about the situation.
john_j Posted November 6, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted November 6, 2008 Erl I posted some information on dpreview.com under the Leica section and in the forums on Phase One's site. It's a little convoluted to get to PhaseOne's forums but there is infomation on the 4.5. problems. Luminous Landscape also had some information. Shootist Posted November 6, 2008 Share #12 Posted November 6, 2008 C1 4.5.2 is only for the Mac. And I just noticed that version 4.5.1 says it is for Windows XP Service Pack "3" or Vista SP1. Well my 4.5.1 is running on a Win XP SP2 PC and I don't intend to update any of my XP PC's to SP3 and don't want anything to do with Vista. I guess I can just unistall all PO software and just forget about it.
erl Posted November 7, 2008 Share #13 Posted November 7, 2008 Thanks John. I will give P1's site another go at "unconvoluting" & check your other references out. Shootist, my Pc is similar to yours wrt to service packs etc and I also don't want anything to do with Vista But P1 Ver 4.1 runs and works really well on mine so I don't 'need' to upgrade until I am convinced of the benefit to me. You might try it.
Dantist Posted November 12, 2008 Share #14 Posted November 12, 2008 I use to install every new version of C1 in a new folder. It may happen I use an older version of C1 due to specific light conditions of the shoot. All are working absolutely fine from the beginning The worst problem I face with C1 is, imho, the sharpening. Better with older versions, must be enhanced. But this is not what I am aware of, Photoshop makes it quite fine (but not with raw files...). Anyway, ACR is far back from C1 for details and perfect tone balance... Anyone must try different tuffles before feeling well at "home"
