Has my SD card become land-fill?

I took a few snaps on my M8 today and when I pressed 'Play' on the camera it came back with "no valid image".

 

I put the card in my MacBook Pro and although the previous images were visible today's images weren't there.

 

I put it back in the M8 and tried formatting it. There was no error message but the process seemed to be abnormally quick. Tried a few test snaps and again in the laptop and it was the same result as before.

 

Tried formatting it from the Mac's Disk Utility Tool. It told me it had found errors and fixed them but when I tried in the M8 again nothing had changed.

 

Tried formatting it in my D2 - which seems to give better feedback than the M8 - at least it was able to tell me "unable to format because of an error".

 

At this point it seems to be an ex-SD card. What a shame as it's one of my favourites (and bloody expensive when I bought it): a Sandisk Ultra II USB card. They don't seem to be making the USB cards any more, which is a shame as it was really useful, maybe this has been happening too often.

Michael - try cleaning the contact points on the card and in the camera with a contact cleaner (easy to find in an electronic or hardware shop). It worked for me when this happened. You can find some posts in the forum on this subject, that's how I picked up the tip a while ago.

Since the card doesn't seem to work in 2 different cameras then yes it is land fill.

Don't even think about trying to salvaging it. It is TOAST.

Sandisk Ultra III cards are supplied with data recovery software which has saved many an image for digital photographers. Even if you are unable to rescue your Ultra II card, it might be worth asking around or actually buy an Ultra III for future use.
