seemeng Posted November 1, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not certain if this is the best part of the forum to post this as I was wondering if it's better to be in the digital forum or the analogue forum? Anyway, since I'm a M8 user, i will post it here with apologies. I was wondering of anyone in the forum have sent their Noct back to Solms to tweak the front focussing issues with the lens. I only face this with the Noct and not with my 50mm cron, 35mm Lux and tri-elmar. How much does it cost to rectify the front focussing issue with the lens? I am also plannign to 6-bit code the lens since I am goin gto send it back to Solms. Your quick feedback is much appreciated. Many thanks in Advance. Cheers. Shootist Posted November 1, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 1, 2008 Depending on the age of the lens and whether or not it is still in warranty the bill could be considerable. Leica has a habit of not doing just what you asked for and doing a full service on the lens. That full service can be costly. I sent in a lens for 6bit coding and NJ stated that it needed to go back to Solms. I said Ok. I got the bill from Solm and almost fell of my chair. seemeng Posted November 1, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted November 1, 2008 I was quoted about US$200 for 6 bit coding. What did the unsolicited extras cost? I must be really be prepared for the worst. It's no longer under warranty, lens serial is 395xxxxx I think (too lazy to dig it up). Many thanks. Well it was on a 90mmTE and the coding was free, had/have coupons from new lens purchases, and the total was around $500 (more then the lens is worth). What Leica said is the lens needed cleaning and internal adjustments. Seemed to work fine before I sent it in but since it was already in Solms I said OK. I guess I could of said NO to the extra repairs and just got the coding done. But what the heck you only go round once. I have now bought a current version 90mm Elmarit and that older lens sits on a shelf. Go figure.

rickp13 Posted November 1, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 1, 2008 hello see meng i sent my new/old noctilux E58 to solms recently for coding, and sent the m8 (and a summilux 75mm) at the same time so they could all be "matched" to each other in focusing. here are the details: labor - euro 224.63 6 bit conversion adjust focusing overall adjustment focusing adjusted on m8 overall adjustment test photos parts for 6 bit- euro140 mailing - euro 40 tax - 89.23 -------------------- ttl 558.85 i didn't have any specific front- or rear-focusing issues before. like you, i took advantage of sending the noctilux for 6 bit coding to have the three parts matched to each other. i'm very pleased with the results. good luck to you rick

I now have a good feel of the potential damage How did it take them to do the job? Also was the 89.23 tax levied in Germany or your home Country? rickp13 Posted November 1, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 1, 2008 hello see meng i sent the equipment on 15/9, and it was back on 6/10. in germany, they send a cost estimate first, then you pay, then they repair and return, so that week is included in the dates shown above. solms is ca. 400 km from my home in hamburg. VAT was "in" germany because i reside here. you may want to mark your shipping form "for repair and return" so you have something to show to your local customs office when the lens returns. cheers rick
