My first m6 ttl had a rangefinder problem after less than 3 months, my second one, which i just bought from Tamarkin works great, however the advance lever is really scratching the top plate of the body. my guess is that its just a little loose, but not sure. Anyone have any input on how to fix it or if it is a common problem? I also shoot on an m4 and that shows some wear under the advance lever, but only at the very edge and i mean, the camera is over 25 years old, the M6 ttl is under 10 years old and it looked new when i got it less than a month ago and it catching up with the m4 fast-

The advance lever should not foul the body top. If you bought it from a dealer I would ask him to fix it for you. It is more difficult with a private sale but still possible. My 7 years old M6TTL shows no such similar signs of scratching.

Screw down the concaved ring that goes around the shutter release just above the advance lever.

You may need a flex clamp tool to get it tight.

If it is already tight then more then likely the wavey washer that sits in-between the advance lever and that ring is missing.

That chrome ring has a stop on it so it can't go down to far and make the advance lever stiff but if that washer is missing the advance lever can move up and down.
