KrankyKraut Posted October 28, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I'm new to this forum. The only Leica I currently have is the Minilux. I love the lens. Now I'm hooked and looking to get R lenses to put on my Canon EOS-1 film camera with an adaptor. I'll get the 50mm Summicron, the 90 mm Elmarit and the 28mm Elmarit. Those lenses cover 90% of what I shoot, with the 50 and 28 getting the lion share. Now, given the fact that 40% of my photos are shot with a 28, does investing $1,000 into the latest version of the Elmarit make sense, as compared to $450 for the old version? I rarely shoot 28's wide open, where the new version apparently excels. Most of my 28 shots are stopped down to F8-F11. At those F-stops, is there a visible difference between the old and new versions? Thank you for your input!
Advertisement Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Hi KrankyKraut, Take a look here Elmarit R 28mm differences between versions?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
fernando_b Posted October 28, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 28, 2008 From f/8 to f/22, and speaking of resolution and contrast, you can be sure there is no difference between the two versions. For the colour rendition I can't answer for the first version; the second, btw, is very good, even if I mostly use it from f/2.8 to f/8. Fernando. andybarton Posted October 28, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 28, 2008 I have owned both versions in my time For what you want it for, the old version with the bayonet hood, will do very nicely. The later version, with the built in hood and ROM, is better on later R cameras and especially with the DMR Spend the saving on something else! tgray Posted October 28, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 28, 2008 I know this isn't a 28mm, and not a Leica lens, but Zeiss is coming out with a 21mm in Canon EF mount that has auto aperture too. It might interest you as it seems to be a highly rated lens...
