Ivar B Posted October 26, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have two sets of the beautiful 2004 Summicron-M 50mm 50 years jubilee edition, new in box with papers, authenticity information etc. I am planning to sell one of them, but I have been unable to find any recent sales or something of this lens which could give me a clue about current market value. Can anyone provide some more information?
Advertisement Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Hi Ivar B, Take a look here Leica Summicron 2/50 - 50 Years. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
harryzet Posted October 26, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2008 sell it -the price you get is the market-value
Ivar B Posted October 26, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted October 26, 2008 sell it -the price you get is the market-value Yes, of course, but as I am in no desperate need of cash a low market price will prompt me to keep it!
alun Posted October 31, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 31, 2008 There are current Summicron 50/2s on the UK secondhand market at about GBP 600.00 in lots of places. The 50 Jahre carries a premium but I don't think all that much of one... Apart from the anniversary markings it was an identical formula to the standard 50/2, was it not? It seems curous to have TWO sets of something you don't know the value of...
Ivar B Posted November 2, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted November 2, 2008 No, this is a completely different lens with the outer design of the 1954 Rigid but the optical layout is identical to the current one, although it is sometimes argued that this model is made with tighter tolerances. It is difficult to assess market value as I have not seen any lenses sold in the last 2 - 3 years at least. It may seem that owners (read collectors) hold on to them

Ivar B Posted November 5, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted November 5, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have sold mine to a Hong Kong 2nd hand dealer at US$1,500 early this year. Thanks - this is useful. I was thinking along the same lines. Can you recall how many were made, 1000 or 2000?

dkamp Posted November 10, 2008 Share #9 Posted November 10, 2008 Hi Ivar, Your post is interesting, because I have the same lens and have also been wondering about its current value. My local camera shop could not find any information on it and the Leica rep in this area does not have any current information on the lens either. I have toyed with the idea of parting with it, but I love the "retro" look of the lens. I bought it with the intention of using it with a chrome M body and since I now have a chrome M8, it would seem to be a logical companion (although my chrome 35 summicron sees most of the action). Sadly, it has yet to be put on a camera and remains secure in its box. It seems somewhat of a waste not to enjoy it. Do you have any intentions of using yours or was it purchased mostly as a collectors piece? Best regards, Richard
MP3 Posted November 14, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 14, 2008 Yes, this lens is not that often seen in the market, but I can recall they were sold at around USD 1,500.- in the past 2 years before the financial tsunami.
