The hair and freckle color and lighting are part of the mood and attitude for this subject. The b/w subdues or hides this. What about the b/w film, filter, development? I've found that film, filter, and processing choices make a big difference in facial features, whether one wants to hide or emphasize them. Anyway, well done on both images.
