wilfredo Posted October 23, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi: I just got the new Epson 2880. I printed a picture using the Epson Ultra Premium Presentation paper and it worked fine. I am now trying to print a Super B size print using Velvet Fine Art paper but when I go to make that selection, it won't give it to me. I loaded the paper in the front slot but nothing seems to happen. I think the printer does not know the paper is there and that is why I can't get that option to print. Any suggestions? I called technical support but they won't be open until 6:00 AM Pacific Standard Time. Wilfredo

wilfredo Posted October 23, 2008 Author Share #2 Posted October 23, 2008 PS At times like this is when I appreciate the old 2200 cumbersome method of loading the paper manually from the rear. Wilfredo
stunsworth Posted October 23, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 23, 2008 Don't you need to load that paper from the rear due to its thickness? If so there may be something in the driver that tells the printer where to load the paper from - i.e. the rear feed rather than the main one. I don't have that printer, so this is guesswork on my part.
wilfredo Posted October 23, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted October 23, 2008 Steve: This printer has three places from which to load the paper, top, back and front. I assumed Velvet Fine Art loads from the rear as in the 2200. I loaded it that way but it would not print. It also would not eject the paper, I had to pull it out. I looked at the manual and it says that thick paper goes through the front slot. I tried doing that but nothing happens. Wilfredo

Wilfredo Reading the manual there are a few steps you have to do before you can print using the rear slot. If you have followed these instructions to the letter then I have no idea. Sounds (reads) like a real PITA. Good luck.
wilfredo Posted October 23, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted October 23, 2008 I called technical support this morning. It turns out that Super B Velvet Fine Art does load through the rear feeder. The problem was that for some reason the printer was on roll mode. To solve that problem I had to hold the roll button for three seconds and then hold the trash/paper button for another three seconds to reset the printer. It worked, I'm printing. It would be helpful if the manual would tell you specifically what papers load where. At first the tech support guy didn't seem to know anything about this printer. He put me on hold for about 5 minutes and came back with the solution after talking to Jack. Cheers, Wilfredo

wilfredo Posted October 24, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted October 24, 2008 Well maybe I spoke to soon. I'm back to not being able to print again. I keep getting a message that either the printer is not ready or the wrong paper is loaded although I have followed the loading instruction to the letter. If anyone has this printer and has any tips, I welcome them. As of this moment I have to say it is a PIA. Wilfredo
greg s. Posted October 24, 2008 Share #9 Posted October 24, 2008 Hi Wilfredo, yesterday I had some trouble with the 2880 too, with front loading. The software doesn't seem to be very stable, sometimes. Switching the printer off and - after a little break - on, closing and restarting the software (Epson's and PS) may help. Guest WPalank Posted October 24, 2008 Share #10 Posted October 24, 2008 Wilfredo, Might I suggest that you join the Yahoo Group "Epson Printers"? EPSON_Printers : EPSON Printers (World's Largest) Possibly your problem has already been posted or you can do it yourself.
wilfredo Posted October 24, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted October 24, 2008 Greg: I was able to solve the last problem. I love the prints but I'll have to get use to the quirks with this new printer. William: Thanks for the link. I will be checking it out. Cheers, Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography

Shootist Posted October 25, 2008 Share #13 Posted October 25, 2008 Don't you think it would be a good idea to post what both of you did to solve the most recent problem with this printer so others may not have to go through what you guys did. Seem only fair. What did you think?

What did you think? In fact, I didn't solve my problem with front loading the 2880. The prints come out heavily blurred (rear and top loading works so far). I'll e-mail to Epson this week and hear what they say. And I'll keep you posted, o.k.? Best, Greg
Don'tknowmuch Posted October 29, 2008 Share #15 Posted October 29, 2008 Have a 2400 or whatever it is, and an Epson flatbed scanner. I have on two occasions got into a kind of MSN-style typed dialogue via the Epson website and on both occasions the correspondent quickly understood I wasn't phoning up with something simple and with a few questions about my problem he or she quickly got me onto the right fix. I was very impressed; it's kind of like a conversation but both sides have time to think about exactly what they mean and where they want the "conversation" to go. If this was me I'd give that a go.
