netsrac Posted October 18, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried to transfer pictures from my D-Lux 3 to my PC, by putting my memory card into the Lexar USB that came with the camera and plugging that into my PC USB port. It only transferred old pictures. Not only did the newest picture not transfer, they were also gone. I put the memory card back into my camera, hoping that there the newer pictures would reappear somehow, which proofed to be wishful thinking. This is super sad as I took pictures of the Indian summer in the Catskills last weekend. Now I want to find out what caused this catastrophe so that hopefully it won’t repeat itself. Anybody know what I did wrong?

Shootist Posted October 19, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2008 Try formatting the memory card in the camera after you download them to a PC. This is just good practice. Did you see the picture on the camera LCD screen when you were taking them or when reviewing them on the camera? Do you own more then one memory card? If so are you sure the card that was in the camera today (IE the one you tried downloading images from but only found older images on) was the card you used LAST WEEK to take those shots that are missing? Check all your cards.
ceflynn Posted October 19, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 19, 2008 The disk directory of the card may be corrupted. Try this utility: PhotoRescue Home Page - PhotoRescue Wizard, PhotoRescue Expert, PhotoRescue Advanced
Ruhayat Posted October 19, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 19, 2008 Sorry to hear about the loss -- I can empathise with your pain. Formatting cards in the camera every time after you download photos to hard disk is good practice. In this case, though, I wouldn't reformat or erase the card until I have tried disk recovery utilities on it. Buy and use another card, and take the 'faulty' one to an IT shop that can do data recovery. Re the missing photos: sorry for the silly question, but did you confirm that the files were indeed saved to the card when you took them? Because if the card or file directory is faulty you (a) probably would still see a couple of intermittent shots from the session; and ( the PC would have reported the corrupted card to you when you inserted it or given you error messages while copying. Files typically don't just disappear in a specific batch. If the D-Lux 3 saves files in separate folders according to date, then that folder must have been erased in the camera somehow, or the camera must have somehow failed to record the photos. digger1914 Posted October 31, 2008 Share #5 Posted October 31, 2008 I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago, I could se pictures on the camera but could not get them off the card. I tried a newer card reader and that did the trick, so you might try looking @ that too
