wilfredo Posted October 16, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 16, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been thinking of getting a digital light meter to use with my M2. I've never used one (digital). Any recommendations? Sekonic? Cheers, Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography

rob_x2004 Posted October 16, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 16, 2008 Cheap new in box, plastic, practical 308s.
Camera Obscura Posted October 16, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 16, 2008 Hi Wilfredo - I have just been looking at this as well. After some research I would go for the Sekonic 308. Did not like the Gossen Digisix. Feel, look and interface of Sekonik are just nicer. Hope this helps. John
kenneth Posted October 16, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 16, 2008 I've been thinking of getting a digital light meter to use with my M2. I've never used one (digital). Any recommendations? Sekonic? Cheers, Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography Not sure about using the word digital and M2 in the same sentence. Why not consider a Weston Master V with an invercone. By and large no meter is accurate or perfect but with trial and error and a little calibration any light meter would be fine with your M2. I use a Weston sometimes when I want to discreetly check settings with my M6
alifie Posted October 16, 2008 Share #5 Posted October 16, 2008 308, I need my reading glasses to see my Weston in low light.

johnastovall Posted October 16, 2008 Share #7 Posted October 16, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm a big fan of the Sekonic L-398 built like tanks and no batteries (you can fine good deals on used ones) but you might want for an M2 to look at the VC II. Didn't note the digital part. But I'm an analog sort.
Douglasco Posted October 16, 2008 Share #8 Posted October 16, 2008 I have just purchased a Sekonic 308s and I am very pleased with it.
andym911 Posted October 16, 2008 Share #9 Posted October 16, 2008 Wilfredo sekonic 308 is excellent but a Weston Euromaster is cool:D andy
rob_x2004 Posted October 16, 2008 Share #10 Posted October 16, 2008 The flip side is that the 308 is aweful to use and doesnt sit well in hand, has you searching for buttons. Cant have everything.
MPerson Posted October 16, 2008 Share #11 Posted October 16, 2008 Wilfredo as an alternative have a look at the: Voigtlander VC Meter II Small, discrete and slips on the flash shoe. Mine resides on a CL.
wilfredo Posted October 16, 2008 Author Share #12 Posted October 16, 2008 Thank you all. I'm looking into these options. I have an old Gossen Luna Pro and it is time to replace it. The Sekonic 308 looks like a good option. The Voiglander would look good on the M2 and the price is right. NZDavid Posted October 16, 2008 Share #13 Posted October 16, 2008 Yet another vote for the Sekonic 308. It's small, fast, accurate and very easy to use.
KM-25 Posted October 17, 2008 Share #14 Posted October 17, 2008 I own 5 meters: A spot, Sekonic L-358, Autometer VF converted to strictly infrared and two tiny Gossen's for the Leica M's, Digi-flash and Digi-six for backup or second film. I absolutely love the Digisix and and Digiflash, small, light, unobtrusive for street work, awesome on batteries and great EV dial for quick extrapolation. joakimsundkvist Posted October 17, 2008 Share #16 Posted October 17, 2008 I have a Sekonic 308b and I like it a lot. The only thing I am missing is that it lack aperture priority mode. /Joakim

peter_n Posted October 17, 2008 Share #18 Posted October 17, 2008 I have a Sekonic 308b and I like it a lot. The only thing I am missing is that it lack aperture priority mode. What Joakim says is a problem with most of the mid-priced digital meters. Shutter priority is very annoying so you have to go to the more expensive models to get aperture priority. Alternatively you can use a meter like the Sekonic L-398A or the Gossen Digisix to get digital capability but with an analog display. You can see all the aperture/shutter speed combinations at a glance with both, just like with the old Westons. Unfortunately it seems Megatron have stopped manufacturing Weston meters. flavio Posted October 17, 2008 Share #19 Posted October 17, 2008 Yes, peter_n is right and Megatron stopped to produce Weston Master. I purchased mine "V" some years ago at WELCOME AT THE WESTON & EURO MASTER RESOURCE - by JohnDesq good, fast and friendly service. I also purchased up there a Weston Master n. 9 (the one used by Ansel Adams). Cheers.
peter_n Posted October 17, 2008 Share #20 Posted October 17, 2008 I bought my Megatron Euro-Master II five years ago and it will probably last forever... I was thinking about selling it but now they have discontinued it - no way!
