Michael-IIIf Posted October 15, 2008 Share #21 Posted October 15, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) MBP has been updated. but from now onwards it will come only with glossy screen. For photo editing it can be a pain [well, actually huge PITA] . I am used to matte screen. may be others who use glossy screen will differ. . Good for Apple I say. I bought my MacBook Pro with a matt screen because I was worried about reflections. It died - mainly because I dropped it - and even though it was out of warranty those nice people at Apple gave me a new one. The one I got is obviously refurbished (I'm not complaining) and they obviously knew that model was due to be superseded this week anyway. It so happens that this new one has a glossy screen and I have to say it's a revelation. I find myself using it in preference to my 23" Cinema Display because everything just looks so much better on it. Not only photographs - which you'd expect - but everything looks better. The whole computing experience is simply nicer as a result. Glossy is the way to go.

Ruhayat Posted October 15, 2008 Share #22 Posted October 15, 2008 The new metal Macbooks sound sweet. Although I'm still waiting for a proper replacement for my 12-inch Powerbook, probably still the best form factor Apple has ever made. The glossy screen is a disappointment, but then I hook up my laptop to an external screen when I'm at a desk, anyway, so not that big a deal. Came across the Lenovo S10 "netbook" the other day and was thinking, when is Apple coming out with a 10-inch Macbook? That would be perfect for me, I only need moderate processing power. Hey, any modern processor with 2-4GB of RAM would likely smoke my ancient 1.33GHz G4 with the dinky 1GB RAM. I might just get an MSI Wind and run OS X off it. I have no problems with using Windows, it's just that all my creative software are Mac versions.
Guest noah_addis Posted October 15, 2008 Share #23 Posted October 15, 2008 Wow, no firewire. That's a huge disappointment, makes it unusable for me. It's a real shame since I prefer the smaller laptops. I wish they would bring back the 12-inch screen, or even a smaller one. Now I have to choose between the MBP, which is really bigger than I need, and maybe an older model macbook.
steve_l Posted October 15, 2008 Share #24 Posted October 15, 2008 The experts at Apple say that the matte screen is much more accurate for colors and the glossy has better blacks (better for B&W)
