why not?. Look at the german part of this forum after someone named "Josef38" from Prague

he uses it whithout coding and filter. You can code it yourself if you are using a Millich modified adaptor. And using a filter is also shown in this thread:

Sorry 4.5 it is. my mistake. i guess i will need an adaptor also. Plus how will the lens work if it does not have the coding on the lens?

I got my lens and adapter several years ago. My adapter cannot be coded, but I've used it successfully with the M8 anyway. It works well with very little vignetting. Some samples: Indy Library II

... and the telemeter doesn't work with it. ...

If you mean the auto exposure meter, it works just fine with mine. If you mean that its not focus coupled then it's not - but the enormous depth of field means that virtually everything in shot is naturally in focus unless you're shooting close up at f/4.5 when you'll have to estimate the depth of field or use hyperfocal distance.

Yes I meant focusing, and no it's not a big problem with a 15mm ! :o)

Forgot to mention this in my first post. For the library pics, I pre-set the lens to 2m and f4.5. According to the DOF scale, this means everything is in focus from 1m to infinity. Then I set the Leica 21-24-28 external finder on 21, the M8 on auto, and shot away, never bothering to look through the rangefinder.
