barnack Posted October 11, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a simple question I think. When working in Lightroom 2 what is the best to way to export from a DNG to Jpeg, but still able to maintain a large file. When I export DNG files that are on average 6mb to a Jpeg, the size of the file is reduced dramatically, on average 400-600 kb. Any advice that can be given to save to a larger file? Thanks for any assiatnce
Advertisement Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Hi barnack, Take a look here Lightroom 2 Post Processing; DNG to Jpeg. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted October 11, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 11, 2008 I think you may be exporting to web Jpg. this will reduce the size of the file to make it easier to upload to a website. you can also increase the quality of the file. Default is 60, try going to 80-90 or 100 I just exported a M8 DNG, 10.10MB file, using 100 as quality and end up with a 6.78MB JPG.
jonmccormack Posted October 13, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 13, 2008 Select the image, hit export (bottom left in library), make sure you do not have resizing selected, and select maximum quality.
Overgaard Posted October 13, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 13, 2008 Go to Library view (selected in the upper right corner) If you have given ratings (stars), go to View > Sort > Rating which will put all the rated pictures in the beginning of the thumbnail library. Then select those you want to export, say 30, 5 or 200 files. File > Export with Presets > Burn full-size JPGs That will create full-size JPG's with the changes made in Lightroom. It may ask you to insert a CD after having created the JPGs, you just discard that. When I work with Lightroom I have all mu DNG files from one shoot in one folder on an external hard drive. So I import thise to Lightroom without moving them. When exporting the full-size JPG's I create a folder within the original, named "Selected Lightroom 2JPG's" and also a another internal folder "Selected DNGs" to which I drag the selected DNG's. This means Lightroom copy the DNG's to that location. You might say that's a lot of space to use, by having the selected DNG's in two places. But it enables me to use that folder and open (the selected ones only) in another RAW converter. If I one day start to use a new RAW converter of file organizing program that does not support or "see" the ratings given in Lightroom, I can "see" those by selecting that "selected DNG's" folder.
