Jeffrey, I'm used to do as you do since i find the camera hanging from my neck or shoulder boring. I found this item on the internet that you may find useful too Get your SLING for the Leica M!

I'm considering buying it since the strap wrapped around the wrist may sometimes be boring too..

Enrico, thank you for the link. I think I had seen this before and did give it some thought. If I'm working with two cameras, I do like to move one quickly onto my shoulder and then wrap the other around my hand (in a way I've got used to quickly) and continue shooting. Having a shoulder strap does come in handy then!

If you do buy this wrist strap I hope it works well for you.

Jeffrey.

Peter, just a friendly comment :) I believe Morgan Sparks prefers that his mail address isn't public because people have sent him cameras for covering without a return address or any other form of contacting the owner.

I like the looks of the standard covering on the M8.

As for grip, I have the standard black leather Leica half case. I think it is only $130. It's genuine leather with a reasonably sticky grip and has bumps for the thumb and fingers in the right places front and back on the right side. An additional plus is camera and finish protection. I will admit that it does slow down card and battery changes, but I find for my shooting, both last me an entire day when shooting while traveling. It slips off easily enough by releasing two snaps.

If you are using the Leica leather half case on the M8 you might want to occasionally check the camera for damage. I used one on a black M8 and found two problems. The rear of the press studs wore through the leatherette covering on the camera and they also wore the black chrome down to the base metal. When you hold the case your hand applies significant pressure to the stud areas. I no longer use Leica's case. I've just purchased a Mr Zhou leather half case from eBay and the back of the press studs are much flatter, time will tell if it's problematic. Leica could have changed/improved the case in the meantime since mine was a very early one.

I bought my M8 as well as the Leica half case on 7/3 and found out in early Sept that I had the exact same problem as Bob mentioned above. I bought the Mr. Ahou half case and the press Studs are much flatter, Hoepfully, it will not further damage the leatherette covering on the camera

Thanks for the information. so far, my Leica half-case still has the felt covering over the back of the studs, so no problem. I'll keep an eye on it. I'd hate to stop using it since I like the feel and the protection.

jevidon,

Leica has a NEW leather half-case model which doesn't damage the NEW leatherette available at NJ. If you have your half-case leather invoice, contact CS at NJ to send your camera together with your actual half-case and they will replace the damaged vulcanite and your old half-case for the new model one. They have done it for my both cameras during the upgrade.

ArtZ,

Then, I have the new half case. I've had it only a few months and on inspection of the and snap stud, I can feel absolutely no bump or protrusion that would wear through the felt lining and mar the finish of the body. Thanks for the comforting info.

Chris, you're probably right with the new Vulcanite efficiency with the grip. I had not yet the M8.2 in my hands, mine was just a pure aesthetic opinion. I like the smoothness of the old finish, in particular on the silver one.

Check Gordys camera straps - I don’t find them boring :cool:gordy's camera straps
