Painting in Photoshop

Is this forum for post processing the way I do it? Is it acceptable to post images here or is this just for discussions?

I made this into a painting using only photoshop filters andpainting out the background.

I was fascinated by this red hat among all the bland colors at a special recital in Grace Cathedral.

If you're really serious about getting into painting on photographs, you need investigate Corel Painter X. While it does not have broad effects like PS that will apply a look to an entire image, it is the ultimate in a painting program.

It is exactly like using the medium you choose (oil, pastel, watercolor, impasto, etc.) - for example, if you setup a heavy oil brush and are overpainting a photograph, the strokes appear 3D from the bristles and you will get a puddle of oil paint at the end of the stroke.

With watercolor, you can setup how wet the background is, how wet the brush is, how fast the watercolor dries, how much diffusion, etc.

It's really the digital equivalent of every type of drawing and painting tool available from the art store: charcoal, pencil, oil, pastel, chalk, watercolor, air brush, ink, pallette knife, etc.

You can use the tools available from each tool set or you can custom create your own tools through the brush creator function. The "clone" function allows you to bring a photograph into the program and use the photographs base colors as the color of the brush. If effect, what you're doing is pushing the photo's color pixels around with the tool you've chosen so you're transforming the base image's pixels into "paint."

Thank you both. Ben, I do not remember which filters I used but it may have been watercolor.

Buckhorn, I use Painter and Studio Artist all the time. I just posted this since most people have PS and might want to try painting without the expense of buying new programs..

I have just returned from an extended trip and have found out that several of my painted photos have been published in Corel Painter Magazine. It is published in England. It would have been nice, if they had told me, but at least I found out. I have not been able to get all the issues to see my work in print but i am working on it.
