B&W as suggested by Gorman

After having read Sharookh's suggestion, I looked up Greg Gorman and went about to build an action as per his instructions. There is a pdf you can download from his site, to be found under "navigation - learn". I'm no CS-monster :p but I worked it out eventually.

There's one awkward moment I'd say, where you have to choose your color. I took a somewhat darker yelllow than he suggested, but afterwards went back to take the lighter one. It looks horrible at first, but it all works out when you follow the rest of the steps.

In the end Gorman's B&W is a duotone and that takes some finesse I think, otherwise it all becomes rather garish.

Here's my bit: a color jpeg and the B&W as per Gorman (with yellow as second tone). I'm not even going to post a straight greyscale as everybody knows that thát's not the way to go :).

Oh, and anyone in for make and model of the car? :D

I went one step further and found a very nice action at atncentral.com, based on Gorman's pdf. It leaves just the right amount of options open to tweak levels, curves and the color for the duo tone.

In the earlier B&W conversion I used a lighter tone, but now I used a very dark orange like tone (RGB 60-50-40 for anyone who wants to try it).

Here's the image with this conversion. Furthermore, here is a link to the action. Look for "Gorman BW Action" by Robin Holden. Downloads

Marco -

I'm thrilled with your post.

I just posted the method on the earlier thread. Your second photograph is what I would have done too. But the beauty of this method is that it allows you total control on how cool or warm you wish your picture to be.

Also there is an incredible richness as we can see from your photos.

Well done, my friend!

This is the result you would expect from Agfa 118, the legendary photo paper. Cogratulations. Beautiful image.

Kamil,

I'm using it more and more and am really very happy with this workflow and action. Go have a look at my post "the trouble to get it here" (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/landscape-travel/65863-trouble-get-there.html) on the landscape forum. It really is a simple action once yo get the hang of it.

That is also extremely tasteful. Many thanks...
