wizard Posted September 30, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 30, 2008 Is a separate lens shade available for this lens? No, at least not from Leica. You can screw the 2.8/50 Elmar's separate lens hood into the Summicron's filter thread, and it will extend exactly the same length as the Summicron's built-in hood in extended position, but since the diameter of the Elmar lens hood is smaller you are likely to get a small amount of vignetting in the extreme corners. Might not bother you if you are doing slides, as it will regularly be covered by the slide mount. Andy

wizard Posted October 1, 2008 Share #7 Posted October 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Which version of the M 2/50 are you referring to? Serial number? Ivar, he mentioned the extended lens shade. Thus, it can only be the latest version of this lens. Best regards, Andreas
sharookh Posted October 1, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted October 1, 2008 Ivar - As Andreas says - the latest version. Chad - I think you've cleared the confusion - Thanks a ton. Optically though , is the 50/2 equivalent to the 50/1.4 from f/2.0 onwards??
Ivar B Posted October 2, 2008 Share #9 Posted October 2, 2008 Ivar - As Andreas says - the latest version. Chad - I think you've cleared the confusion - Thanks a ton. Optically though , is the 50/2 equivalent to the 50/1.4 from f/2.0 onwards?? Well, almost is perhaps the most correct answer, given that you refer to the 1.4/50 ASPH. The 1.4/50 ASPH is an extraordinarily good lens and nothing fully matches the performance of this lens, including the 2.0/50. For all practical purposes though, the latest version of the 2.0/50 is plenty good enough.
