I spent a morning searching through the web in order to find some decent reviews of the DLux 3. Assuming, and I think assuming correctly that the specs will be similar to the Panasonic LX2 and that DÖux 3 reviews weren't available I looked through these.

I came across this one:

DCRP Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2

Which I must say is pretyy dissapointing, the conclusion being tat in terms of features it is an excellent camera, the only flaw is the picture quality......

Well thank god I use my cameras for cooking and not photography ....

I would say browse through the review.

 I have read the same review...as conclusión, Venus III engine provides less noise but at 200 iso what you have is bad quality in terms of definition.:( ...so my only hope is in raw mode; is posible is posible any increase of quality over d lux2????.

I´m going to reserve my money for a real sucesor of Digilux 2 -of course not the actually D3- .

RAW is no doubt your best bet. But as the that review and others have stated, the additional 2 million pixels doesn't improve the image all that much. And the fact that those additional 2 million pixels have been crammed onto the same footprint of the sensor as the previous model would suggest that noise will most certainly be higher and place greater demands on even RAW post processing to clean up.

It's ironic that the Venus III engine (which has no effect on RAW) was beefed up to address Panasonic's chronic problems with noise, it does to some extent but as you read, at the price of lower image quality. We buy these cameras because the lenses are so crisp yet the noise and the over processing to deal with them conspire to defeat their purpose.

more and more soul destroying reviews about pana cameras

they are really going to have to do something other than make pretty cameras with good spec sheets

the venus 3 engine does some weird things

even in places where you wouldnt expect to find noise detail is ugh... blotched
