Leicaiste Posted September 28, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) OP/TECH USA is now offering "back to back lens couplers" for Leica M (and for the other main lens mounts too). With o-ring. I know that this accessory exist made by Leica, but this one allow to attach any current M lenses together which is not possible with the Leica model for the many lenses having a protruding rear element, like wide angle lenses. The finish is maybe not Leica like, but it works very well. I bough one at their booth during Photokina. The # is 1101231. Leicaiste Posted September 28, 2008 Author Share #2 Posted September 28, 2008 I just read that it will be available only in late January 2009. Mine was a kind of prototype I guess. Lucien
ljclark Posted September 29, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 29, 2008 I'm using the double caps that DAG sells, but if the Op/Tech caps with the o-rings "snug" on a little better, that would be a nicer cap.
rafael_macia Posted September 29, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2008 The best solution would be to have click/lock M caps, back to back.
divory Posted September 29, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 29, 2008 Just stick two back caps together to hold two lenses in your bag. I have been doing this for years and as well as providing a secure way to hold multiple lenses in the bag it also gives you a more secure way to hold lenses whilst changing in the field. veraikon Posted September 29, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 29, 2008 The cheapest method is to glue and screw two orinigal indian M-caps back to back together. Costs: 2x2.50€ + 10ct glue and 15ct two screws + 5ct tape = 5.30€.

ljclark Posted September 29, 2008 Share #9 Posted September 29, 2008 Just stick two back caps together to hold two lenses in your bag. I have been doing this for years and as well as providing a secure way to hold multiple lenses in the bag it also gives you a more secure way to hold lenses whilst changing in the field. Been there...Done that. I find that the fit of almost every rear cap I've tried (single or double) is a little loose. With the mass of two lenses working in the bag, I'm not always confident that the caps remain firmly attached, especially when lifting them out of Domke cells. I think the O-rings have the potential for a more reliable fitting. And in the grand scheme of things, I can hardly chortle about saving a few bucks on caps when we're using them on lenses that run between a few hundred dollars to several thousands. alifie Posted September 29, 2008 Share #10 Posted September 29, 2008 The finish is maybe not Leica like, but it works very well. Have you seen a real Leica back to back, just grey plastic moulded down to a price. Unless they have done a new one.
Guest DuquesneG Posted September 29, 2008 Share #11 Posted September 29, 2008 Have you seen a real Leica back to back, just grey plastic moulded down to a price. Unless they have done a new one. The last ones were black plastic. I have one of each. They both hold the lenses very snugly. Probably used ones that have seen decades of abuse could be worn loose, but mine are 25 and 15 years old respectively, use them constantly, and they are as tight as can be. What is the bugaboo with them is that they are not two discreet caps with a wall between them, as the R-mount double rear caps are. The M double caps are hollow like donuts, and such that those lenses with deep rear elements protrude deeper than the flange of the "partner" lens. If one lens is a 90, it's not usually a problem, but if both lenses have protruding rear elements, they'll knock together and won't mount in the caps. Sometimes racking the lens to close focus solves the issue, sometimes not, and it's a matter of remembering to do that each time. An example of a stupid Leica design that was never corrected. The R-mount double caps don't have that problem.
