V-Lux 1

Hi folks,

If they would come up with a V-Lux "clone" equipped with an optics say from 28-280 mm instead of 35-420 mm, this would be a real challenge to my money wallet.

So, I continue being happy with my DL2 that still produces nice images.

Best regards, Peter.

Edit: Although quite amateurish, I did a small comparison between DL2, V-Lux and DL3 in the German Forum:

Peter, I agree with your modified wish-list. I am certain most people would prefer the zoom starting at 28mm.

Regarding the use of a D2 for street shooting.....

My D2 sits comfortable in my 'Caribee bum-belt', and is easy accessible during my street walks.

Signficant benefits of D2 in this form of street shooter-

1) Capture lag is 94 msecs (documented on Leica website) when using manual focussing.

2) D2 flash is superb for daylight fillin when required

3) D2 is currently the closest thing to digital 'reportage style' (short of getting an RD1s or M8), with the bonus of a fast Vario (aka zoom) lens. An adequately "lensed RD1s" will cost 5-6x a D2 and of course the equivalent "lensed M8" will be 8-10x the price of a D2, granted both of these will produce better images over a D2

The biggest bonus of the D2 is the high quality "fixed attached" lens, no dust can get to the sensor or lens elements, which I see now is starting to be of concern in digital photography with interchangeable lens cameras.

In the old days, dust may have attached to the film, but that got removed from the camera body by removing the film and blowing compressed air thru the light chamber.

Today however, the dust is lingering to the sensor and blowing air into the "no through road" chamber does not seem to be as effective. (explains why Panasonic introduced the ultrasonic sensor cleaner on the L1)

Have a careful look on the Leica photo forum. D2 images have a "Leica glow" to them that brings the subject alive. (DMR's do this even better, but at 12-15x the price of a D2)

If Leica could make a fast Bi-Elmar (or Bi-Summar) in the form of focal lengths 28/90 (or there abouts) for the M8, I would buy that combo immediately, and not remove that lens off the body (to keep it dust free). This is 'my' Leica dream upgrade from a D2.

Who cares about wish lists, modified or otherwise. What you get served up with is what there is. Longing for some change is as stupid as dreaming of a 6.2 with a sensor or a Lux2/3 with a viewfinder and ISO. Anyway, when was the last time Leica got it right with a camera? Sure they tweak great great grandads design into an MP or an M7, almost faultless, but as far as coming up with something fresh off the bat? D2, three years too late? What else? Struggling here. 4-7 were in a minolta case. Anyone? Stunning optics...but...Gee there is some dumb stuff
