leica dream Posted September 23, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone got ideas/experience about the most efficient way to conserve VLUX-1 battery power? On a recent holiday I took to switching off/on frequently, but wonder whether I might have got more battery life by letting the Power Save function manage things between shots. pleeson Posted September 24, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 24, 2008 Avoid using LCD to see images after each shot; AKA "chimping" -- i.e: turn auto review off. Use EVF instead of LCD for composition. Set power save to 1 or 2 min. And most importantly, carry a spare battery ;-]
leica dream Posted September 24, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted September 24, 2008 Thanks, Phil. That is pretty much how I do things - I am an EVF man and do not check images after shots . In fact I hardly use the LCD. I suppose my query really is which technique conserves more battery - switch-on & off or auto-standby. Richard
pleeson Posted September 25, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 25, 2008 Interesting question. My gut feeling is that it's probably not much different, but I like the faster start-up by using the Auto-standby feature.
bjmike Posted September 26, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 26, 2008 Also: turn off continuous focus & turn off IS1. I'm pretty sure IS2 uses less energy. Better yet, turn off both. Use the flash sparingly, if at all. External flashes use less energy off the camera's battery. And don't delete any photos in-camera. And carry an extra battery.
