This camera and the associated lenses (8!), the new fast M wides, and the Summarits are Steven Lee's products. ...

The major developmental work on the S2 and its lenses has been performed since March of this year (you know who left the company in February?). As Mrs. Harberts told me yesterday, the S2 prototypes presented on the Photokina were assembled just one or two weeks ago. Steven Lee cancelled R10 development last year. So Mrs. Harberts and her team will have plenty of work now. Nevertheless, it's fine to hear that the R10 will come.

Regards, Peter.

Considering the price they're asking the images better be breathtaking. On paper it doesn't look that impressive.

The new digital projector will cost 9900 Euros (at least here in Germany). All I can say that the demonstration on the Photokina WAS breathtaking.

Regards, Peter.

I struggle to believe the timescale, from nothing to show protos in 6 months, and onto customers sales in a total of 18 months.

Given how long it took to sort out the M8 (assuming you think it is now sorted) it just doesnt seem credible....

and now I see Irwin Putts writes 'The Africa/Afrika project (Auto Focus Reflex Camera) was initiated by S. Lee immediately after Photokina 2006' which seems a much more believeable gestation period.

Is that all? Well B&O tvs are expensive too.

Once I photographed a Heckler and Koch gun factory. They had several indoor test firing ranges and all of them used Pradovit projectors to project a target onto rolls of paper. I wonder how sharp that target needed to be?

That's an ignorant, sexist comment. She's Maike Harberts who for at least the last two years has headed up this development. Kudos to her and her team.

Oh, Jesus!! Get over it and set aside your feminist politics for just a few minutes!

Okay, one or two comments like this I can ignore, but this now makes three, and I can't stand to see people picking on Mark for standing up for some decency around here. Ignorant comments like the one mentioned just have no place in a public forum like this. I would hope and expect to see some warnings doled out to people whose low intelligence cause them to utter such complete garbage in the first place. It is prejudice pure and simple.

Oh, and darkstarwhatever, it is not about feminism, it is about equality. Get your brain in gear for a second here.

Sorry I have to agree with Mark and Carsten on this, just no place for this BS in the 21st century. Besides all that I meet her last year and she is a really nice lady, very bright and pleasant to talk too. Her position at Leica is certainly well deserved.

OT , Hi Carsten long time no chat hope all is very well with you.

Maybe we should consider that arguing over this makes things worse rather than better.

The orginal coments were primitive but tongue in cheek - at least that was my interpretation. I would expect no offence was intended. So what are we hoping to achieve by magnifying this out?

No need to magnify anything, but it needs dealing with. Why not just apologize and we'll move on? Normally such comments would be made among friends who know and understand each other, and not in a public forum, where silent readers may well take offense.

Hey Guy, I am still reading both forums from time to time! Just have little time to post and get involved.

Are you also thinking about the S2? I am currently kinda thinking that if it is in the 10,000 range, I will probably start saving for one, and shelve my plans for an R kit, just M+S, but if it is around 15,000, I will wait for the R10. You? Apart from denial, I mean? :D

I am thinking about it but only if all the stars align correctly. The quality of file will not be that much of a difference from what I am shooting now but the speed of this may push me over the edge. ISO,Shutter lag and FPS are the area's that my MF system could use some help. Just have to see how this is born and the support for it.

Wow. That is one ridiculous price I must say. Are they strictly becoming an industrial supply manufacturer or what? 10K to put up still life images of rocks, children and stuff in the back yards of people who paid another 10K for their Noctilux.

A close friend who works at the Chicago areas' premier Audio, Video, and everything high-end that's cool store - said the projector is on par on prices when compared to the better/best products from the main brands. It is not just a 'still projector' but for videos as well and upon reviewing the spec's is quite impressed.

This system is a totally different animal than what we Leica users are used to - I wonder how we'll feel in 2009. i would like to suggest one change for the S2 -

Use a more 'leather-like' covering on the body - except for the grip.

You really do have to see this projector in action to appreciate it. I have never seen this level of quality in any non-commercial grade (read: much bigger and many times the cost) projector. The level of photo-realism is unbelieveable.

We have an SXGA+ (1400x1050) DLP projector with 2200 Lumens and all the specs you may want that cost us $3000. I have calibrated and profiled it with an Eye One XT beamer. My projector looks like absolute rubbish next to the new Leica. You would have to spend the same or more for a unit that is double or triple the physical size to get this level of performance and IQ.

Many manufacturers focus on the specs and numbers, trying to make the brightess and most contrasty units designed for either home theater or business presentations. Leica really focued on photo reproduction and display.

I hope that Leica sets up some kind of demo program so more people can see it.

Hi,

This projector appears similar to the F10, from Projectiondesign AS, a Norwegian company, projectiondesign - high performance projectors - F10. I wonder how much is the F10? Could the price difference be attributed to the Leica lens alone?

The best DLP projector I have seen is from Marantz. This was a 3-chip DLP design. But pricing was breathtaking as well!

The WUXGA version of the F10 is even more expensive than the Pradovit D-1200. See http://www.luxion.de/pages/d/produkte/liste/gruppe/projektoren/suche/projektoren/hersteller/projectiondesign.html.
