Posting pictures ... is it ok to show Serial No.'s?

I am expecting to receive a couple of scarce vintage Leicas this week and plan to post some pictures here .... on another forum I participate in (watch collecting) we never show or refer to the whole serial number and thus use XXX for last 3 digits. I'm advised this is for security reasons so that fraudsters cannot submit false insurance claims . However, with the cameras I have arriving their history and some might say provenance is all in the serial numbers and with one of them it would be very difficult to show just part of the number because it is only four digits. Same might apply to the lenses with one of the cameras.

What are other members' views on this? Should I photograph the cameras to show all the serial numbers? Do I risk something by doing this? Would it be better to erase the serial number in the image before posting it? If I was buying at auction the serial number would be shown in the catalogue for all to see. The cameras were bought from a reputable source so no danger of them being stolen property.

Thanks for reading

Cheers

If you had bought them very cheaply for cash in a pub I would hesitate in publishing the serial Nos, if from a reputable source with known provinence I cannot see the harm. But then I have had no experiece of fraud in these matters.

Regards, Stuart.
