psamson Posted September 13, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) M3, Summicron 3.5cm f3.5 Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 Emil Fieseler Fi 156-C2 Storch North American P-51D Mustang All of these aircraft are part of the Flying Heritage Collection Home : The Flying Heritage Collection in greater Seattle. The collection was started by Paul Allen - one of the founders of Microsoft. One unique aspect of the collection is that all of the aircraft are still airworthy/flying. They were flying the Spitfire last weekend (pics on my link below), and next weekend will be flying the Bf 109 Emil.

mark_goode Posted September 13, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2008 Peter, image no. 3 is stunning: great color, clarity, and composition. And this collection is a great use of Allen's money (IMHO) :-)
Marquinius Posted September 14, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 14, 2008 Peter, I'd trade a small part of my body for the ownership of the Storch (#2). Marco
psamson Posted September 14, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted September 14, 2008 More details on the Storch and the other aircraft is available on the website Home : The Flying Heritage Collection I am a pilot and I must admit I wanted to take the Storch for a "drive". It looked like it would be relatively easy to fly, and have excellent short-field characteristics. I was impressed to see the 109, 190, Storch, etc. in airworthy condition. I too am impressed that Paul Allen is using his vast personal finances to fund a collection from numerous countries involved in WWII.

Marquinius Posted September 15, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 15, 2008 A guy called Slepcev built a replica (80%) that can bought for reasonable price. I'm still dreaming of thta thing. 16 knot stall speed ... you can fly by the gust of the wind. Marco
psamson Posted September 16, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted September 16, 2008 A link to the backside of the Storch. I didn't post the pic here since it was taken with a Nikon D60. Picasa Web Albums - Peter Samson - Aviation I was looking at the other Storch photo and I noticed that the Storch in Paul Allen's collection has a gun turret in the back. I thought some might find that interesting to see.
