Advertisement Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Hi ho_co, Take a look here Is the new Zeiss mount for Canon?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted September 13, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2008 I have read that elsewhere too, The "E" is for EOS
stunsworth Posted September 13, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 13, 2008 Given that they already make Nikon SLR lenses - see the link - I'd assume that to be the case.
adan Posted September 13, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2008 I guess Zeiss can incorporate "null" contacts to keep the EOS firmware happy, replicating the "chipped" adapters used so far. It will be an interesting week in Köln. Maybe I better answer those offers of PMA tickets for next winter after all.
stunsworth Posted September 13, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 13, 2008 I think they may need to do more than that as the mechanism used to stop down an EOS lens is electrical rather than mechanical. So there will need to be communication of some sort between body and lens.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 13, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 13, 2008 It could be Mamiya guys . There was talk of this on my forum about this also and a few folks thought it maybe Mamiya. Mamiya is coming with a 45 T/S lens from Harbetai ( spelled wrong sorry) with Zeiss glass. Not sure this has anything to do with the ZE coding but does make you wonder. Not sure Canon would sell there license to Zeiss

Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 13, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 13, 2008 Thanks for correcting that. Brain is still trying to get going this early saturday morning. LOL I hope to be getting one of these soon to test from Phase One.
sdai Posted September 13, 2008 Share #9 Posted September 13, 2008 What a shame for Zeiss ... after how many years, they still don't have a camera.
AlanG Posted September 13, 2008 Share #10 Posted September 13, 2008 Hartblei: Phase One introduces 3.5/45mm TS lens: Digital Photography Review Interesting range of tilt/shift etc MF lenses: Hartblei I believe what Hartblei does with the Super Rotators is use Ukranian ARSAT MF optics in their own special mount. I am a bit suspicious of this $4000 45mm Super Rotator as I don't really know if it is significantly different from the one Hartblei sold for about $1000. And I think Michael Foreman used to sell them for less on Ebay. (Now all Super Rotators are shown as out of stock on the Hartblei site.) This lens and others were available in Mamiya and other mounts. That is a lot of additional profit for Phase One simply for marketing. (If true I think this is very revealing about the prices of MF digital gear.) What I think may be the same or similar glass is available from Hartblei.com as a 45mm shift (no tilt) for $295 and a 55mm tilt for $395. Plus $45 for a Pentacon to Mamiya adapter. The 55 I have is quite good, very big and heavy because it is for MF - I use it on 35mm. I had one of the shift adapters that allowed shift when using any Pentacon lens on a 35mm. But it was badly aligned so I returned it. Maybe they have improved these. As for Zeiss glass, Hartblei also took some Hasselblad type Carl Zeiss lenses and put them in their own TS mount. They showed these at PhotoPlus Expo two years ago if I recall. These were pretty expensive. I think it was the Zeiss people who were showing the lenses. Anyhow I don't know if this is very related to Zeiss lenses for Canon unless, the Carl Zeiss Hartblei MF lenses have adapters for Canon.
ASpes Posted September 13, 2008 Share #11 Posted September 13, 2008 I think this has been mentioned in the German forum, but I haven't noticed it here:PhotoScala is speculating that Zeiss' new ZE SLR mount is indeed likely to be for Canon: well, guys, I'd like to add just my 2(euro)cent ... There's another system that is identified by the "E" letter, the Olympus one. While I agree it's more likely it's Canon, until Monday I won't give up my (little) hope for Oly and the 4/3. Last year I had an email exchange with Zeiss suggesting the 4/3 mount as a market that had almost no primes and their single line answer was "not negative", or at least sounded like that to me. Now, Zeiss is going after mounts with expired copyright, afaik this applies to both Nikon and Canon, but the 4/3 one is in "public domain" so to say, therefore there could be a little chance for that one, until proved different of course. Since its releasing the Panasonic 25/1.4 for the 4/3 has always been heavily backordered, and now for the first time since a few weeks it's steadily "in stock" at B&H, just a coincidence or ... a hint? Oh well, just two more days of guessing ... you know, that 85/1.4 would do great on my Leica D/3 ... :-))
robsteve Posted September 14, 2008 Share #12 Posted September 14, 2008 What a shame for Zeiss ... after how many years, they still don't have a camera. Maybe Zeiss has Licensed the Exacta name ZE= Zeiss Exacta
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 14, 2008 Share #13 Posted September 14, 2008 Well my bet is some system my win pretty big here if it is true. Zeiss certainly makes some nice glass as almost all of us have tried them on different mounts through the years. Be interesting to see what ZE really is intended for. sean_reid Posted September 14, 2008 Share #14 Posted September 14, 2008 I think a lot of people will be very happy when they find out what this new lens line will fit. Cheers, Sean
sdai Posted September 14, 2008 Share #15 Posted September 14, 2008 Maybe Zeiss has Licensed the Exacta name ZE= Zeiss Exacta That's good one. Rob. LOL I don't think there're really a lot of people care what they do. Now they have offerings in 4, or may be 5 different mounts already and there's no sign the mosquito factory of Cosina in Nagano prefecture is reaching its full capacity. Guess these Z-whatever lenses aren't that popular after all.
